BRUTAL TRUTH’s New Album Posted for Streaming

Reunited grindcore band, BRUTAL TRUTH, have made their new album available for listening in its entirety on http://www.evolutionthroughrevolution.info.  The album, entitled Evolution Through Revolution, is the band’s first album in 10 years.  It’s scheduled for an April 14th release in North America (April 17th in Germany and Benelux, and April 20th in the U.K. and the rest of the world) via Relapse Records. The CD was recorded at Watchman Studios in Lockport, New York with engineer Doug White (PSYOPUS).

CREMATORIUM: West Coast Shows and New Material

Long running death metal/hardcore stalwarts CREMATORIUM have just confirmed a handful of west coast dates, including appearances alongside BRUTAL TRUTH and at Murderfest 5.0. Here are the dates:

4/4 – The Sets – Tempe, AZ w/ BRUTAL TRUTH
4/5 – Jumping Turtle – San Marcos, CA w/ BRUTAL TRUTH
4/6 – TBA – CA w/ BRUTAL TRUTH
4/8 – Knitting Factory – Hollywood, CA w/ GOATWHORE
4/9 – Knitting Factory – Hollywood, CA (LA Murderfest 5.0)

The band are currently writing and demoing new material for an album that should surface by year’s end. Vocalist Daniel Dismal had this to say about the shows and the new material:

“I am excited to be sharing the stage with longtime friends BRUTAL TRUTH and GOATWHORE, as well as showcase some of the new material we have been working on. I never thought I would see the day where the death metal/hardcore hybrid scene would become so big. We decided now was the time for us to become more active, playing more shows and writing new material. I feel that this is CREMATORIUM’s most volatile and concise music to date. We can’t wait for people to hear our next step in the evolution of the band.”

Daniel Dismal has always been a strong supporter of underground music, through his upstart promotion company Church of the 8th Day, which besides booking shows all year long, is responsible for organizing the Los Angeles Murderfest. CREMATORIUM’s last album, The Process of Endtime was released in 2005 on Prosthetic Records.

A member of BRUTAL TRUTH for the majority of its legendary career in the 90′s, Hoak returned to play the band’s much-anticipated reunion shows this year and to record the new album.

Peace, Love, And Total Fucking Destruction, the new album by Hoak‘s main musical project, TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION, hits stores in North America on October 28 via Enucleation Records. Described as “grindcore performance art,” TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION combines grindcore, classic rock, and social critiques in a way that has inspired the SF Weekly to hail Hoak as “the devil to Andrew WK‘s angel.” The band has posted a brand new track, “Let The Children Name Themselves,” on its official MySpace page:

VENOMOUS CONCEPT – Poisoned Apple

Despite having some of the worst album artwork in recent memory, VENOMOUS CONCEPT‘s second album, Poisoned Apple, packs a considerable punch. But this should come as no surprise as the band features half of NAPALM DEATH and half of BRUTAL TRUTH as its members. “Drop Dead” starts things off with a bang as the band unleashes a catchy exercise in d-beat crust punk fury. “Toxic Kiss” and “Life” quickly follow keeping the energy level high. However, the band soon loses momentum with a series of somewhat bland, uninspired tracks that aren’t necessarily terrible, but are a bit of a disappointment when you consider the talent involved. Things get back on track with the blasting “Every Mother’s Son“, the driving blue collar punk of “Workers Unite” and the harsh, throat-scraping highlight, “Hero.” Overall, the band’s performances are beyond solid, with Kevin Sharp leading the charge, giving his vocal chords an intense workout, as Dan Lilker serves as the super glue that holds VENOMOUS CONCEPT together with his thick-as-fuck rumbling bass lines. Meanwhile, Danny Herrera effectively alternates between punchy punk beats and blasting grindcore, while Shane Embury ably holds down the fort on guitar. All in all, a tight-as-shit exercise in punishing punk with ample helpings of grind, creating an album that while solid as stone, suffers from some inconsistencies and at times, tepid songwriting. That being said, Poisoned Apple nonetheless serves as a capable excursion from some of the underground’s finest. (Century Media Records)
