DANZIG Announces 25th Anniversary Tour for Danzig I Album

2013 marks the 25th Anniversary of DANZIG’s seminal 1st release – Danzig I.  To celebrate, DANZIG will play a series of very special U.S. shows this year.  Also, former MISFITS bandmate Doyle will join Glenn Danzig for a special mini-set. Plus, SCAR THE MARTYR, SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison’s new project, and HUNTRESS will also perform.  Cherie Currie, former front woman of Los Angeles’ hugely influential all-female band THE RUNAWAYS, will play her first LA live set in nearly two decades.

DANZIG has been doing shows at Universal Amphitheatre since the early 90′s and this upcoming show on August 30th will be my 7th and sadly, final time performing in this Great Venue,” said Glenn Danzig.  “I’ve done some killer shows here with lots of Unforgettable Memories from DANZIG, BLACKEST & 2 years ago the epic LEGACY Event!!!  It’s probably my Favorite Place to play in California so I’m gonna miss it!!  And just to make this an even more Historic Event I’ve got a little Something Special planned for this.”

The End Records Sign DANZIG; New Album Due in June 2010

The charismatic and complex singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig is set to unleash his first new DANZIG studio album in six years. Deth Red Sabaoth, produced by Glenn and recorded in Los Angeles over the course of 2009, will be released on June 22, 2010 (Evilive/The End Records).

The 11-track collection, penned by Danzig, is laced with Glenn’s lycanthropic growls and blues-infected wailing. Tracks including “Black Candy,” “The Revengeful,” and the first single, “On A Wicked Night,” emit a spectral glow to rival the highest points in Danzig‘s colossal discography. Part 1 of the exquisite two-part “Pyre of Souls” opens with acoustic guitar, haunting piano, Glenn‘s plainsong vocal, and an almost dirge-like feel; Part II explodes with electric guitars and a driving, mesmerizing cadence.

“I think that fans will really dig this new album,” said Glenn. “I’ve been told several times that the album has a cool vitality to it, it sounds energized, and I got that feeling when I was recording it. I wanted it to have an organic sound, bigger and thicker, so I went out and bought some 1970′s Kustom tuck ‘n roll bass amps to play some of the guitar parts through. You’ll hear real reverb, real tremolo on this album, which sounds completely different than the stuff that’s done with computer chips.”

Joining Glenn in the studio for the recording of Deth Red Sabaoth were guitarist Tommy Victor (PRONG, MINISTRY), and drummer Johnny Kelly (TYPE O NEGATIVE, SEVENTH VOID). While Kelly has toured with Glenn intermittently since 2002, this is the first time he has recorded with the band. Glenn handled the bass chores for most of the album, and played drums on “Black Candy.”

As is with all of DANZIG‘s releases, the CD cover artwork for Deth Red Sabaoth is provocative and ominous. The cover is an original piece created specifically for the CD by the award-winning artist Joe Chiodo whose work has graced not only Danzig‘s Verotik publishing line, but the covers of numerous graphic novels and comic books, including “X-Men Unlimited.”

DANZIG plan to tour extensively to support Deth Red Sabaoth; dates will be announced shortly.

Ex-D.O.A., BLACK FLAG, DANZIG Drummer Chuck Biscuits’ Death a Hoax

Despite numerous reports of his death, D.O.A.‘s Joe Keithley has dispelled rumors that famed drummer Chuck Biscuits (ex-D.O.A., BLACK FLAG, MISFITS, DANZIG) has recently passed away.

“He’s well and alive, so that’s good news,” said Keithley.

According to the Canadian Press, the reports seem to have originated from a single blog post written by New York freelance writer James Greene Jr., who has since claimed that he was duped by an anonymous emailer.

Additionally, the band are set to embark on the Blackest of the Black tour with headliner DANZIG and support acts MOONSPELL, WINDS OF PLAGUE, and SKELETONWITCH.  The five-band tour will launch a 24-show trek on October 9th in Miami Beach, Florida and play its wrap-up show on November 10th in San Francisco, California.

Tour mastermind Glenn Danzig stated: “I’m very happy to have DIMMU BORGIR sharing the stage this time, as they are one of my favorite bands and [I] always wanted them on.  Should be an incredible 20th anniversary tour.”

DIMMU BORGIR founding member/guitarist Silenoz checks in from his native land with the following:

“Let there be no secrecy around the fact that we’re really looking forward to the Blackest of The Black tour, finally joining forces with DANZIG!  To get the chance to share the stage with one of the most influential icons in metal and rock history, Glenn Danzig, is of course something we’re very proud of!  Combined with the other bands, this will be a night to remember – if you’re into dark and heavy music, that is.  We actually take it for granted that you will be there!”

LACUNA COIL Kick Off U.S. Tour with IN FLAMES

LACUNA COIL just embarked on a U.S. tour as direct support to IN FLAMES with THE SWORD and SEEMLESS in the support slots. The group recently completed a highly successful run on the annual Blackest of the Black Tour alongside the legendary DANZIG, labelmates THE HAUNTED, BELPHEGOR, and ASESINO. This is their group’s third U.S. run in support of Karmacode, their highly praised new album.

Andrea Ferro (male vocals) checks in with the following report: “Blackest of The Black was a good experience, and we were especially excited to have a chance to tour again alongside our party bros Kenny and Johnny from TYPE O NEGATIVE, who helped out DANZIG on this tour. We also had the chance to hit some places we never played before like Spokane, Santa Cruz, Tucson and Fresno, which were all amazing. The people’s reactions were simply awesome. The last day in Santa Cruz, DANZIG cancelled so we had to take the role of the headliner, which was all together a really cool experience.

“This led us immediately into two really packed headlining shows in Mexico, where we were met with first class treatment. We haven’t played there since 2001, when we opened for THEATRE OF TRAGEDY. We did a signing session the first day and stayed for almost two hours. Eventually we had to leave, and the fans were following us grabbing our hair and screaming. We felt like the BEATLES in the ‘60s! Both shows were truly amazing, and even if the technical conditions were not really appropriate, the crowd brought everything to a magic level. It’s always amazing how much these people appreciate the fact that you come to their country, they always have such a great time.

“We just began the final portion of our touring for the year after joining up with IN FLAMES, SEEMLESS, and THE SWORD. The first gig in Norfolk was very good, with a lot of people jumping and screaming, so things are already off to a really positive start. Rock on, and we will see you soon.”

The band’s latest video, “Our Truth,” can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6gFJogLJ_g

Tour dates:

12/12 Kool Haus – Toronto, ON
12/13 Agora Theatre – Cleveland, OH

LACUNA COIL Announce U.S. Tour; Launch New Single and Video

Due to overwhelming demand, LACUNA COIL will return to the U.S. this November as direct support to DANZIG as part of the next incarnation of his highly successful Blackest of The Black tour. This is the group’s third U.S. run in support of Karmacode, their highly praised new album and will wrap up a highly successful year, which saw numerous highlights such as a main stage Ozzfest slot, a sold-out tour with ROB ZOMBIE, a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and a Top 30 Active Rock hit single with the track “Our Truth.”

The band says, “We initially planned to headline the U.S. this fall, but DANZIG made us an offer we couldn’t refuse, so we postponed our headlining plans until January. We can’t wait to return to America with another true legend.”

This tour also coincides with the launch of the group’s new single for the track, “Closer,” the third single from Karmacode. The radio mix and edit of “Closer” was done by Brian Malouf (MICHAEL JACKSON, MADONNA, PEARL JAM), and the captivating video for the track, completed by the directorial team Fort Awesome (who also shot the group’s acclaimed “Our Truth” clip) can be viewed here.
