“After 23 years, DISMEMBER have now decided to quit. We wish to thank all our fans for your support.”
Season of Mist is thrilled to welcome Swedish death metal veterans, NECROPHOBIC, to the roster.
“We are very proud to sign with Season of Mist“, bassist Alex Friberg comments. “A unique label when it comes to sincere musical enthusiasm. Sprung from the endangered kind that will still sign a band because of their actual qualities. We believe in a long and strong relationship between NECROPHOBIC and Season of Mist!”
NECROPHOBIC was recently joined by guitarists Robert Sennebäck (DISMEMBER, UNLEASHED) and Fredrik Folkare (UNLEASHED) and is currently writing material for its seventh full-length, which should be released sometime next year.
In the meantime, the band will hit the European roads with fellow label mates MORBID ANGEL and BENIGHTED in November and December.
It’s a fact that Stockholm, Sweden’s legendary DISMEMBER have quite an excellent discography. You can pick any album to listen to and you can’t go wrong. However, one song stands above all the rest and that is “Dreaming in Red” from the band’s second album, Indecent and Obscene.
Check out the video for this death metal classic:
The down tuned freight train of opening song, “Death Conquers All” busts through the speakers and there’s no doubting who the culprit is. Despite losing long time drummer/producer, Fred Estby, the Stockholm death metal machine known as DISMEMBER soldiers on with their self-titled eighth studio. The most significant difference with Dismember compared to the band’s last several albums is that the MAIDEN guitar melodies are used more sparingly. In their place, DISMEMBER have injected more of the brutal, driving riffing that was the original and sole basis of their sound. As a result, the album is more brutal and consistently faster than their recent releases. There’s a good mix of the different types of songs that fans have come to know and enjoy about DISMEMBER. The two standout songs that display how great they can be are “Under a Blood Red Sky” and album closer, “Black Sun.” The former starts off with ferocity and speed but really takes off during the last section of the song. In true MAIDEN style, the song section starts off quietly and builds up to huge melodic guitar riffs that take on a life of their own. The latter starts off in much the same fashion as the former but continues its fast intensity for much of the song until it gradually burns out. Overall, the album is pretty consistent in quality – good but not great. Its place in the DISMEMBER catalogue most likely depends on individual taste. DISMEMBER were born at the beginning of Swedish death metal and it looks like they’re going to outlast everyone that came afterwards. (Regain Records)
Swedish death metal veterans DISMEMBER has made their new full self-titled album available for streaming in its entirety on the group’s MySpace page NOW through March 14: www.myspace.com/dismemberofficial
Longtime DISMEMBER drummer/producer Fred Estby has announced that he will be leaving the band after nearly 19 years. Here is word directly from the band:
“We are sad to announce that after almost 20 years Fred has, after long and careful consideration, decided to leave the band.
“‘My decision to put my family in first hand makes it impossible to keep on touring and commit to the band full time. I want to thank all the fans, friends, bands and all the other cool people i’ve met through the years and I wish Dismember all the best in the future. Fred.’
“DISMEMBER are currently in the process of writing new material and this sad loss will not interrupt any future plans in any way. The commitment to keep on playing is stronger than ever!”
ENTOMBED were forced to drop off their upcoming US tour with DISMEMBER and GRAVE. Here’s a statement directly from the band:
“Due to circumstances beyond our control, ENTOMBED sadly has had to postpone their upcoming USA West Coast trek.
“We were very much looking forward to this tour, but conflicts with the promotor, breach of trust and straight-up lies have unfortunately forced us to cancel at the eleventh hour. Never in 15 years of touring the States has this happened, which really is saying something. We are appalled, and you should not be surprised if you see/hear more lies spread about how it is ENTOMBED‘s fault that we could not do the tour because we changed our minds or some shit like that. Simply not true. We’ve never seen blame passed around like this ever before and deeply regret having lent our name to this madness.
“We abominally want to apologise to good folks like Dinis of THE MIGHTY NIMBUS, who have taken time off work and rented a car to come see the show, but look forward to hitting American shores in 2007, hot on the heels of our upcoming studio album release, ‘Serpent Saints’.”

VITAL REMAINS, who are set to head out on tour with DISMEMBER, GRAVE, DEMIRICOUS, and WITHERED offered a quick note on the tour as well as details on their forthcoming new album:
“Just checking in with everyone right before VITAL hits the road again. Going out with DISMEMBER and GRAVE is going to be killer! These are two great old school death metal bands that really helped define the Swedish Death Metal sound. A brutal assault; Death Metal the way it was meant to be, fast and heavy!!
“I know people have been wondering about the new record…well, it’s just about 100% written. More importantly, it looks like Mr. [Glen] Benton [DEICIDE] is going to be doing vocals for us once again! We were able to work around DEICIDE‘s crazy touring schedule, and we’ll be hitting the studio by the end of the year. We’ll keep you posted on all the info and if you haven’t already, go pick up DEICIDE‘s Stench of Redemption…it’s an amazing record. Hope to see everyone in the underground come out and as always, thanks for the support!”
DISMEMBER will hit the US for their first tour in years. Beginning September 30, the band will headline alongside GRAVE, VITAL REMAINS, DEMIRICOUS and WITHERED for an East Coast/Midwest run.
