HYPOCRISY Cancel North American Tour

HYPOCRISY have been forced to cancel their North American tour with ENSIFERUM due to troubles with U.S. immigration. Here’s a statement from the band:

“We regretfully have to officially announce the cancelation of our tour in North America. We’ve tried everything so far and it seems like the process will take longer than expected for one of the members in the band. We will try to come back as soon as possible, as we want to show our U.S. fans that we care for them and we are ready to play the new songs live!”

Previously HYPOCRISY had been in holding mode, fully expecting to join the tour that was already in progress at a later date. In an earlier statement the band explained their situation:

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are forced to stay home until U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services process and authorize our working visas. This is the first time the band has faced a situation like this and it’s extremely frustrating, as well as depressing, since the last thing we want to do is disappoint our loyal fans who have waited years to see us live in the U.S. We filed for our visas with plenty of time, but as some probably don’t know, the U.S. government has changed its rules when it comes to visas issued to artists so it’s become tougher. Even if we have already toured the U.S. numerous times.”

CHILDREN OF BODOM Guitarist to Tour with HYPOCRISY

HYPOCRISY have enlisted the help of CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/frontman Alexi Laiho for their upcoming North American tour. Alexi has agreed to temporarily fill the currently vacant guitarist spot on their tour alongside ENSIFERUM, EX DEO, BLACKGUARD, and SWASHBUCKLE. HYPOCRISY mainman Peter Tägtgren commented:

“We’re very happy to bring Alexi along on this tour and that he’s helping us out with filling the 2nd guitarist position. Funny, the first CHILDREN OF BODOM show was a support gig for HYPOCRISY on the Nuclear Blast festival in ‘98. Since then me and Alexi have become very good friends. I’ve helped him with producing and he’s helped me by contributing a guitar solo on one of my records with my other band PAIN. There will be no shortage of alcohol on this tour that’s for sure.”

CHTHONIC: “UNlimited New York” Concert; European Tour

Taiwanese extreme metal band CHTHONIC, who recently wrapped up a successful appearance on Ozzfest, are currently trekking across the US on their historic “UNlimited” tour, performing their first headlining concerts in America.

Ozzfest has been a great experience for CHTHONIC, but we’re excited to perform for our fans for longer than 20 minutes,” says vocalist Freddy Lim.

In concert, CHTHONIC (pronounced “THON-ick”) will continue to perform the tour’s theme song, “UNlimited Taiwan,” written and recorded this spring “to emphasize the ‘UNlimited’ potential of Taiwan and the Taiwanese people,” Lim says. Like the tour — which kicked off in Taipei earlier this summer following the international re-release of 2002’s Relentless Recurrence and last year’s A Decade On The Throne two-CD/DVD live set — the song was named to protest how the United Nations (UN) limits Taiwan’s full participation as an independent country. The Washington Post and the International Herald Tribune, among others, have recently devoted lengthy features to the message behind the tour.

With a new session of the United Nations General Assembly scheduled to open in New York on Sept. 18, many pro-Taiwan rallies will be held around the city in the days beforehand. To coincide with the UN session’s kickoff — where Taiwan will once again petition to be formally recognized as an independent country, and not a Chinese province — CHTHONIC will hold a special “UNlimited New York” concert at Manhattan’s Highline Ballroom, located less than three miles from the UN, on Sept. 16. Tickets are currently available on the venue’s website, www.highlineballroom.com, and at their box office.

Because this is the group’s third New York City concert in recent weeks, coming on the heels of an Aug. 21 performance with NILE and a Sept. 6 concert alongside KATATONIA, CHTHONIC has arranged for the Highline Ballroom to offer tickets for only $5 to anyone who redeems a ticket stub from one of their previous shows at the venue’s box office. For everyone else, a $2 discount can be obtained by purchasing the tickets online at www.highlineballroom.com (enter “un4taiwan” in the access code field). Furthermore, the first 100 fans in the doors will receive a free set of CHTHONIC “paper dolls,” which are sold in toy stores throughout Asia. (A photo can be seen here.)

The “UNlimited New York” concert will be videotaped, and CHTHONIC hopes that people of all nationalities will join them in this historic plea for freedom and independence.
