CAVALERA CONSPIRACY – Inflikted

It’s been a very long thirteen years since brothers, Max and Igor Cavalera, wrote music together. While many fans still long for a full SEPULTURA reunion, fans have CAVALERA CONSPIRACY to enjoy in the meantime. Starting off with the opening track, “Inflikted,” the band set the tone for the album with an immediate shot of adrenaline – uptempo, hard hitting metal/punk. And do Max and Igor sound great together? Fuck yeah, they do. They lock in perfectly, and it’s obvious that they haven’t lost a single step (just listen to Dark Ages and Dante XXI). Musically, the album sounds a lot like the return to Max‘s (and Igor‘s) brutal/extreme roots that was SOULFLY‘s last album, Dark Ages. However, here there may be even more of those fast, brutal riffing of early SEPULTURA. Also, there are a healthy helping of new riffing styles that have never been heard before in Max‘s back catalogue. Igor not only lays down a top-notch metal/punk foundation for the songs but also adds his unique flare for tribal drumming in numerous parts of Inflikted. His godly precision, skill, and power are definitely steps above any of today’s flavor of the month metal drummers. Lead guitarist Marc Rizzo plays a pivotal role with his excellent shredding skills. His lead work takes the songs to another level and can be found in not only the solo sections, but intros and main riffs of songs. GOJIRA vocalist/guitarist Joe Duplantier‘s most noticeable contribution lays in his MORBID ANGEL-worshipping riff contribution in “Ultra-Violent” and his backing vocals in “Dark Ark” and the aforementioned song. Inflikted, as a whole, is just a very strong package of catchy, memorable songs that possesses the urgency of those classic punk/hardcore records that Max and Igor grew up on in Belo Horizonte. Is Inflikted the best album of 2008? Maybe not, but it might be the most charismatic, memorable, and relevant album. (Roadrunner Records)

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY: Debut Album Drops March 25th

Max and Igor Cavalera‘s CAVALERA CONSPIRACY have announced a March 25th release date for their debut album through Roadrunner Records. The band, rounded out by Marc Rizzo (SOULFLY) and Joe Deplantier (GOJIRA), marks the first effort between the ex-SEPULTURA brothers since 1996’s Roots album.

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY‘s album was recorded this past July at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles, with producer Logan Mader (ex-MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist). The album will feature 11 tracks including “Inflikted“, “Bloodbrawl“, “Terrorize” (formerly “Holy Poison“), “The Doom of All Fires“, “Ultra-Violent” and “Sanctuary“. A cover of POSSESSED‘s classic song, “The Exorcist,” was also recorded for a possible B-side release.

INFLIKTED Change Name to CAVALERA CONSPIRACY; Sign with Roadrunner

Brother’s Max and Igor Cavalera (ex-SEPULTURA) have changed the name of their new band from INFLIKTED to CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, due to conflicts with many other bands already using that name.  The band will still appear as INFLIKTED at the annual D-Low memorial show on August 31st at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona.

In other news, the band, which also feature SOULFLY guitarist Marc Rizzo and GOJIRA vocalist Joe Deplantier (on bass), have reportedly inked a deal with Roadrunner Records.  Their debut release is expected in early 2008.

SCARVE: Thrashing Young Lads

France generally isn’t the first, second, third, or fourth European country you think of when you think of “metal,” but France’s SCARVE is putting their stamp on the metal world one album at a time. 2004’s impressive Irradiant piqued ears and garnered comparisons to MESHUGGAH and STRAPPING YOUNG LAD. That year also saw drummer, Dirk Verbeuren, join Sweden’s SOILWORK. Despite seemingly unending singer woes, SCARVE dropped their latest, The Undercurrent, to an unsuspecting public. The Undercurrent is a dynamic album of gobsmacking technical metallic goodness. APESHIT pinned down the ever-busy Dirk to tell us more about France’s latest stars on the up and up.

JOB FOR A COWBOY, BEHEMOTH to Co-Headline “Radio Rebellion” Tour

Glendale, AZ’s extreme metal unit JOB FOR A COWBOY and Polish death metal troupe BEHEMOTH will be co-headlining this year’s “Radio Rebellion” tour, presented by Hurley and Converse. The twenty-eight city North American trek will also feature highly regarded French band GOJIRA and Canadian technical death metal quartet BENEATH THE MASSACRE.

Ozzfest breakthrough artists BEHEMOTH are extremely proud to be a part of the “Radio Rebellion” tour, which is the perfect follow up to their highly successful summer run. The tour affords the band the opportunity to perform a longer set in more intimate settings, ultimately providing fans with “the definitive BEHEMOTH experience”. This is also a chance for the band to perform an array of songs from their highly acclaimed new offering, The Apostasy, which debuted at #149 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

“We’ve toured U.S. ten times during last few years but we almost never had a chance to headline our own shows,” BEHEMOTH main man Nergal states. “These last few years have been about working our asses off in order to establish our name and build a solid foundation, and now it will finally pay off. It’s high time for us to come back to North America and show our fans what a BEHEMOTH set with full production can be. I love all the bands that are joining us as there is a lot of quality and variety on the bill. I’m thrilled to tour with GOJIRA and JOB FOR A COWBOY is phenomenal! Extremely talented band. I can’t think of a better company for us. We’re bringing all our lights, a full stage production, and will be delivering at least an hour long set. We’ll be playing old stuff as well as songs from The Apostasy. The Radio Rebellion tour is going to be massive! See you there my friends!”

On the topic of the tour, JOB FOR A COWBOY founding member Ravi Bhadriraju comments, “To be a part of a tour along side some of the best acts from around the world is awesome. BEHEMOTH, GOJIRA and BENEATH THE MASSACRE are all from different countries and are all amazing bands. This will be the heaviest tour of the fall! We’re excited and ready to hit the road yet again. All of you JOB FOR A COWBOY fans can expect a show that will be worth your while. Look out!”

In addition to Hurley and Converse, “Radio Rebellion” 2007 tour sponsors include Revolver Magazine, Smartpunk, Metal Blade Records, Ferret Music and Prosthetic Records. “Radio Rebellion” Co-Founder Stewart Teggart comments, “We are very excited to launch this year’s ‘Rebellion Tour‘. It will be ‘Radio Rebellion‘ in the truest sense as we’ve assembled four of the most extreme bands in heavy metal. Each band on the tour this year hail from a different country and all of them have their own unique way of delivering brutally heavy music. If you are a fan of Metal, this tour is not to be missed! Radio Rebellion will be the microphone for the youth by delivering what the fans want to see and hear which is why sponsors with a similar frame of mind have been chosen to help support the tour.”

Release Date Set for MACHINE HEAD’s The Blackening; Tour with LAMB OF GOD, TRIVIUM

MACHINE HEAD recently finished recording The Blackening at Sharkbite Studios in the band’s hometown of Oakland, California. Once again produced by singer/guitarist Robert Flynn and mixed by Colin Richardson, the album is set for a March 27, 2007 release.

With the upcoming release, MACHINE HEAD will head out on tour with LAMB OF GOD, TRIVIUM, and GOJIRA.

Regarding The Blackening Flynn states, “This is the most ambitious thing we have ever attempted. We all challenged ourselves and each other to write a record that pushed the boundaries of complexity and technical structure.” Meanwhile, Flynn’s lyrics have gone from what has been, recently, a more introspective focus, back to the social commentary tackled on previous albums like Burn My Eyes. Flynn continues, “The nature of what is happening in the world led to a darker, bleaker album in every sense.” Pointed and timely, the lyrics in songs such as “Clenching the Fists of Dissent,” “A Farewell to Arms” and “Halo” touch upon politics, the war in Iraq and organized religion. The lyrics to the aforementioned songs spit anger and disdain at their topics in the true spirit of angst that fueled punk rock in the mid- 80’s.

Frontman Robert Flynn continues, “Got all of the mixes 2 days ago, WOW man, Colin Richardson nailed it!! SO massive sounding, it could be the heaviest guitar tone EVER!! We’re all really proud of the results, we worked our butt’s off on this one. It’s a crazy, complex, challenging, and fun record to listen too. It’s layered like hell, one of those albums where the more you listen, the more you hear. We can’t fuckin’ wait til’ people can listen to it!!!!!”

Aesthetics Of Hate” captures the bands anger towards an article that bashed Dimebag Darrell right after his death and slammed the metal community as a whole for mourning it. The band actually performed this new track during the special appearances they made along the Sounds of the Underground Tour this past summer. “Now I Lay Thee Down” has a Romeo and Juliet-esque love story slant to it, while “Slanderous” addresses the hate that still permeates throughout society and “Wolves,” tackles the bands competitive, ‘winner take all’ spirit.

MACHINE HEAD drummer Dave McClain on the upcoming tour: “Looking forward to spreading the metal across the U.S. with our friends LAMB OF GOD, and TRIVIUM. Can’t wait to feel the energy from the fans at these shows! This tour and the venues we’re playing couldn’t be any better for an ‘in your face” metal show!!! “Super fuckin’ stoked to going out on this tour. LAMB OF GOD have been one of my favorite bands since As the Palaces Burn, this is gonna be FUN. Let the metal mania begin!!”

LAMB OF GOD February 2007 with MACHINE HEAD, TRIVIUM, and GOJIRA

Returning to the U.S. after a sold-out tour of Europe, Australia and Japan, LAMB OF GOD is excited to announce a headlining American tour in 2007 with MACHINE HEAD, TRIVIUM and GOJIRA. Having spent the summer of 2006 on the Unholy Alliance Tour with SLAYER and joining MEGADETH for the Gigantour tour in September, LOG will kick-off this tour in Dallas on February 16 as they bring their live show across the U.S. and Canada.

Drummer Chris Adler states, “When you are a kid, you dream of playing your music in an arena. Once you’ve done it, you realize how much you miss the power and energy of a kick ass club show. We’ve been fortunate to be playing some big places as of late, but when we started talking about a spring 2007 Sacrament tour, we agreed (and had heard it repeatedly over the past 2 years from the fans!!!) that it would be incredibly intense for everyone to bring the machine that is LAMB OF GOD back into the clubs. There is no comparing the connection and shared energy of a club show. The blood, sweat, and beer flying – that’s a proper metal show! This is intense music for intense people – we’re sick of the seats, the ushers and the lame security guards telling people to calm down!”

“We probably should have left it at that, but in true LAMB OF GOD form we pushed it further. With a little help from our friends, we put an arena show bill together and told our booking agent to put it into the clubs and theaters – and oh yeah, not just any clubs – lets make sure to hit a lot of cities that normally get overlooked. Let’s bring the best show we can to the people that have been left waiting for far too long. This is going to be completely out of hand and we can’t fucking wait! You have been warned!!!”
