The End Records Signs TODAY IS THE DAY; New Album Re-Issues in the Works

The End Records is pleased to announce the signing of TODAY IS THE DAY for their upcoming new album, in addition to the acquisition of their 10-album catalog. The End Records will release the new album in 2017 in commemoration of the band’s 25th anniversary, followed by the catalog re-issues, which feature exclusive, never-before seen and heard bonus material from the band’s deep archives!

Currently in the studio are visionary frontman/founding member Steve Austin (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Trevor Thomas (bass), and Douglas Andrae (drums). From the studio, the album will be mastered by Maor Appelbaum. When asked about the new album sound, Austin described it as a “wide open devastation of the human soul – a diary of un-filtered anger and emotion detailing the Human Experience and the struggle to survive.”

The catalogue re-issues fall on the 20th anniversary of their seminal album Temple Of The Morning Star. Says Austin, “I am extremely psyched to be re-issuing the Today Is The Day catalog with Andreas Katsambas, a long-time fan of the band. For the re-issues, I searched my archives and pulled loads of photos, un-released tracks, demos, and video to paint the rest of the picture. I wanna share a lot of those experiences, to hopefully expose a lot of the real life behind all my music.”  Further details can be found here.

TODAY IS THE DAY reigns as one of the most influential bands of the past two decades. The band’s violent and anthemic style, which blends metal, noise, psychedelia, and rock, has won worldwide acclaim ever since the debut album, Supernova, first hit in the early 90’s. Ten studio albums have been released on such labels as Amphetamine Reptile, Relapse, and Southern Lord — including modern-day classics like Willpower, Temple of the Morning Star, and In the Eyes of God. The band’s lineup has included such musicians as Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher, who would later go on to form MASTODON.

MASTODON: Stream New Song “High Road”

MASTODON has unveiled a brand new song “High Road” from their forthcoming album, Once More ‘Round the Sun, produced by Nick Raskulinecz (RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS). The album comes out April 29, 2014. Check out the song below.

MASTODON band members had this to say about the new song:

“I wrote that on a day off while we were on tour in Luxembourg. I was sitting in this rainy city on a Sunday, and nothing was open. I felt like I needed to write something to reflect how I was feeling. I started banging on a guitar. I was thinking NEUROSIS and THE MELVINS low-tuned with a little more pop sensibility for the chorus.” — Bill Kelliher

“You can headbang to that one for days. I love the simplicity of it. Lyrically, it’s an angry number where you want to see someone destroyed. It’s heavy-handed in that sense, but it’s the fantasy I felt at the time.” — Brann Dailor

YAKUZA Recording New Album; Documentary in the Works

YAKUZA are currently at Engine Studios in Chicago to craft their sixth studio effort, which will be released later this year via Profound Lore Records.

Mainman Bruce Lamont comments, “There is one common thread in YAKUZA records – we thrive on VARIETY. We try to go to places we’ve never gone before and create open space – being experimental so to speak, but we still have a love for a good melody. Sanford [album producer]is a big help bringing the sounds together.  Lyrical themes focus on life and death, the light and the dark. Our last record was a reaction, somewhat of a warning call  for what has been happening globally and spiritually but not in a religious sense. This album is the aftermath, the balance between the light and the dark. And as dark as it gets, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.”

YAKUZA is also preparing a brand new visual offering. Director Justin Baron has filmed a documentary on the band’s history and unique sound. Be That As It May: Yakuza’s Seismic Consequence will be released later this year and features appearances by members of MASTODON, NACHTMYSTIUM, TRIPTYKON/CELTIC FROST‘s Tom G. Warrior and many more. Director Justin Baron is in need of funds to finish the project and has launched a Kickstarter in support of the film here.

GOJIRA Sign to Roadrunner Records

Roadrunner Records announced today the addition of French metal behemoths GOJIRA to the label.

“We are so stoked to walk with the legendary Roadrunner,” vocalist/guitarist Joe Duplantier said about the new partnership. “We discovered SEPULTURA, MACHINE HEAD, DEATH, FEAR FACTORY and so many other great bands thanks to these guys. Roadrunner has been a great source of inspiration for us as metal fans. It’s an honor to be part of this family today as a band. We feel we’ll get the right support at the right moment in our career. We cannot wait to release our new record and get back on the road.”

The band’s Roadrunner debut will be its fifth album overall. It was 2005’s From Mars to Sirius and 2008’s The Way of All Flesh which established GOJIRA as a metal force of nature and a key player in the scene. The band will record in New York City, also the label’s headquarters, in November 2011, with a spring 2012 release date being eyed. Joe Duplantier will serve in a co-producer capacity along Josh Wilbur.

GOJIRA have kept busy in between albums. They recently recorded the four-song Sea Shepherd EP, with all proceeds from the EP benefiting the Sea Shepherd charity. Sea Shepherd is a Washington-state based non-profit marine conservation organization which employs direct action tactics to protect sea life. Release details on that EP, which is loaded with guests like MASTODON‘s Brent Hinds, LAMB OF GOD’s Randy Blythe, SOULFLY’s Max Cavalera and Devin Townsend to name a few, are yet to be determined.
