In 2009, Boston’s CONVERGE unleashed, Axe to Fall, an album equalling, if not topping, their acclaimed Jane Doe album, managing to titillate those with even the highest of expectations. Staying true to their style, the band bare their souls in a most caustic mix of hardcore and metal that resonates with sheer heart and honesty.
CONVERGE recently whipped through North America on an unusually larger (sponsored) tour with DETHKLOK, MASTODON, and HIGH ON FIRE. This was a unique opportunity for the band to showcase their powerful and unceremoniously raw live performance to a younger and more diverse audience.
APESHIT caught up with vocalist Jake Bannon and guitarist Kurt Ballou during their Los Angeles stop to chat about the tour, the new album, and what makes CONVERGE, CONVERGE.
MASTODON will be co-headlining a North American tour with animated metal band, DETHKLOK from the Adult Swim series, Metalocalypse. Support will come from CONVERGE and HIGH ON FIRE. The 40-city, coast-to-coast tour will begin October 2. Ticket pre-sale begins Tuesday Aug 4, at 10:00AM. General public ticket sales begin Friday, Aug 7, at 10:AM. The End Record‘s Omega Mailorder is featuring a pre-order special of MASTODON‘s new album, Crack the Skye. All pre-orders include an exclusive MASTODON t-shirt for free! To further sweeten an already sweet deal, domestic shipping is free!
The album, which ships in late March is an epic masterpiece of modern metal. Crack the Skye is available in four different formas: CD, CD/DVD, vinyl and double-vinyl w/7″ (vinyl versions ship mid-April). They are also taking pre-orders for the Divinations picture disc vinyl, which features two versions of the first single from Crack the Skye.
MASTODON will embark on a North American tour next month in support of their new album, Crack the Skye. For this tour, MASTODON will perform said album in its entirety. Guitarist, Bill Kelliher, comments on that decision: “there’s something about [the album] where it would be weird to leave a song out. We’ll incorporate a whole stage show, which will hopefully make it even more exciting for kids to come see and more visually stimulating.”
Support will come from KYLESA and INTRONAUT. The two support acts have also scheduled a few off-tour shows without MASTODON.

Singer Corey Taylor comments on the album: “Every album we have made is a statement about that space in time. I think this era is the most mature, most beautiful and the most powerful. We have made an album that will show the road behind, the road ahead, and where we are as men. I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever made. And I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.”
The first single “Psychosocial” will be delivered to radio on June 30 and will be available digitally on July 1st. A complete track listing will be announced shortly.
