Videos of the Day: Double Dose of MOONSPELL’s Memorial

While Portugal’s MOONSPELL have yet to receive the full recognition that they deserve, this pioneer of the second generation of black metal/purveyors of gothic metal continues to put out worthy music. And who can argue with the fact that vocalist Fernando Ribeiro is one of the most charismatic and intelligent frontmen in metal?

Memorial, released in 2006, was easily one of their best records with a healthy mix of old and new MOONSPELL. Check out the two videos that were released from that record.

MOONSPELL and SAMAEL Team Up for North American Tour

Portugal’s MOONSPELL and Switzerland’s SAMAEL will be uniting for the Night Eternal Above America tour. The tour, pairing veteran heavyweights, takes place this fall and features support from BOOK OF BLACK EARTH and SECRETS OF THE MOON.

MOONSPELL frontman, Fernando Ribeiro, commented: “Call me emotional, but as a southern dark fuck I have the gut feeling that this will be the best and most important tour we have ever done in America! First and foremost, the music from all the bands is great, lively and emotional and sharing the stage with SAMAEL again is an honor we highly regard. And no more 25 minutes sets!!! For sure, we’ll party less than on the great Blackest of the Black with DANZIG and DIMMU BORGIR, but we’ll spend more time in the altar celebrating with you guys and that’s what counts! Last, we fear not to be a headliner in a country where we know we are still giving baby steps, and we’ll do our best, musically and visually to deliver upon you the Night Eternal, the solar and the lunar, in our songs and bodies. Be there for the full moon madness!”

Vorph of SAMAEL also commented: “When we first released Above we weren’t sure we would tour for that album, but we’re thrilled this is happening and we’re glad this time America will be the first. We already gave a taste of it in March when we toured with CARCASS but on this upcoming tour it will be the chance to experiment Above on a larger scale and see how it meshed with the older material. The billing is totally to our liking and sharing the stage once again with MOONSPELL will be great fun for us and for the people attending those shows. See you back on the road.”

Additionally, the band are set to embark on the Blackest of the Black tour with headliner DANZIG and support acts MOONSPELL, WINDS OF PLAGUE, and SKELETONWITCH.  The five-band tour will launch a 24-show trek on October 9th in Miami Beach, Florida and play its wrap-up show on November 10th in San Francisco, California.

Tour mastermind Glenn Danzig stated: “I’m very happy to have DIMMU BORGIR sharing the stage this time, as they are one of my favorite bands and [I] always wanted them on.  Should be an incredible 20th anniversary tour.”

DIMMU BORGIR founding member/guitarist Silenoz checks in from his native land with the following:

“Let there be no secrecy around the fact that we’re really looking forward to the Blackest of The Black tour, finally joining forces with DANZIG!  To get the chance to share the stage with one of the most influential icons in metal and rock history, Glenn Danzig, is of course something we’re very proud of!  Combined with the other bands, this will be a night to remember – if you’re into dark and heavy music, that is.  We actually take it for granted that you will be there!”
