Death metal band CANNABIS CORPSE have signed with France’s Season of Mist and have announced From Wisdom to Baked as the title of their forthcoming new album. The American powerhouse’s fifth album will hit the stores on June 20th (June 24th in North America).

CANNABIS CORPSE is the project of MUNICIPAL WASTE bassist Phil “LandPhil” Hall and his brother Josh “Hallhammer” Hall. The band, rounded out by guitarist Brent Purgason (aka “Pustulus Maximus” of GWAR).
Relapse Records has announced the signing of Richmond, VA hardcore thrash supergroup, IRON REAGAN. Consisting of current and former members of MUNICIPAL WASTE, CANNABIS CORPSE, DARKEST HOUR, MAMMOTH GRINDER, SUPPRESIONand more, IRON REAGAN formed in 2012 and consists of Tony Foresta – vocals, Phil Hall (AKA Landphil) - guitar, Mark Bronzino – guitar, Rob Skotis – bass, and Ryan Parrish – drums.
The group is currently in the midst of recording their highly anticipated sophomore full-length with guitarist Phil Hall at Blaze of Torment Studios in Richmond, VA and will be self-producing the record before sending it off for mixing with CONVERGE’s Kurt Ballou. A fall release is expected via Relapse Records. Vocalist Tony Foresta commented on the signing and the new material:
“I’ve always wanted to work with Relapse for years. Their reputaion of releasing so much great underground music speaks for itself. We are all extremely excited about signing with Relapse and putting out this rager of an upcoming record. Having Kurt Ballou on board mixing is just the icing on he cake. We are about 75% done tracking the record here with Phil in Richmond and between this and the rad tours we have coming up its looking to be a very exciting year. I couldnt think of a better label to put this record out on and am really looking forward to a long future with Relapse.”
Additionally, the band is currently on a seven week run that will take them to SXSW and back and includes dates with OCCULTIST and GHOUL. A complete list of tour dates can be found here.
It was inevitable. The worlds of metal and people who love cats have finally converged in a new book, Metal Cats. The book features photos of musicians, fans, and promoters of metal with their cats, including members of ISIS, AKIMBO, GHOUL, LUDICRA, EXHUMED, MORBID ANGEL, MUNICIPAL WASTE, NAUSEA, PHOBIA, and NAPALM DEATH.
A portion of the proceeds from this book and a series of benefit shows held along the West Coast will go towards one no-kill shelter in each of the four main cities visited.
Photographer Alexandra Crockett had the idea to give accolades to local musicians and artists in the metal scene, while also bringing to light no-kill shelters and their importance for animal rights.

Tankcrimes Records is pleased to welcome BAT to their roster of audio decadence. An unholy union of MUNICIPAL WASTE guitarist Ryan Waste on bass/vocals, former DRI drummer Felix Griffin and VOLTURE guitarist Nick Poulos, the Virginia/Texas punk metal marauders invoke the spirits of VENOM, HELLHAMMER, MOTORHEAD, and DISCHARGE with their Primitive Age demo EP.
BAT was forged in fire when Ryan Waste met Griffin in Austin at a MUNICIPAL WASTE gig in 2007. Sharing the same musical tastes and metal/punk backgrounds, the two immediately hit it off. Griffin hadn’t performed with DRI since the late eighties and itched to play again. “We eventually spoke of doing a project together,” relays Ryan. “Originally I was going to play all the guitars, bass and vocals and it would be a studio thing. We sat on this idea for years and humored it every time I’d pass through Texas. It seemed too exciting to not make this a real live band so I asked Nick from our current heavy metal band VOLTURE if he wanted on board as a permanent guitarist and it was a done deal. I would have my hands full singing and playing bass as it was.” BAT, which was the original working title before VOLTURE, seemed to suite the style they were going for so it stuck. “Nick and I cooked up a few raw demo songs, I laid down some basic garage band drums and we sent the tracks to Felix. With Felix living in Austin and Nick and I in Richmond, Virginia, it had to be arranged like that to start. Over this last summer Felix flew in town for a week and we banged out those songs with live drums and wrote a couple more on the fly. With only a few practices under our belts we recorded all the music in one day on reel-to-reel analog tape. It was a challenge to not over analyze and nail down all live takes. It was indeed primitive. We wanted a raw sound to begin with and this turned out to be the ultimate way to achieve it.”
The Primitive Age EP is available as a “Pay-What-You-Want-Including-Free” download at the official BAT BandCamp page here. Tankcrimes is also offering a “Primitive Pack” preorder bundle which includes a double sided T-shirt, embroidered patch, die-cut sticker and cassette tape all for a thrifty $20 plus shipping. Crossover bands have always been in short supply so we are all blessed to have IRON REAGAN‘s debut full-length, Worse Than Dead. Composed of one half MUNICIPAL WASTE and one half ex-DARKEST HOUR members, the band tear through 19 raging tracks.
You may ask, “Well, isn’t MUNICIPAL WASTE a cross over band? What’s the difference? Why should we care?” Yes, you have THE WASTE‘s Tony Foresta on vocals and LandPhil Hall on bass. However, IRON REAGAN do not incorporate melodies, overt SLAYER influences, or party themes. Additionally, the sound, lyrics, band name, and artwork are focused more on early 80′s prototypical hardcore themes and style. And no, this isn’t some heartless, fake attempt at being retro.
Worse Than Dead includes two tracks from the band’s four-song demo alongside 17 new tracks. The bottom line is that every song rules. Tons of energy, hooks, beefy riffs, and perfect production. Don’t be a fool and gloss over IRON REAGAN as being a “mere side project.” This is the real shit. (Magic Bullet Records/A389 Records)
