New OCTOBER TIDE Album Coming this September 28th

Candlelight Records today confirms September 28 as the North American release date for A Thin Shell, the new album from Sweden’s OCTOBER TIDE. Currently featuring guitarist/founder Fredrik Norrman (KATATONIA), vocalist Tobias Netzell, drummer Robin Bergh, and session bassist Jonas Kjellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY, CARNAL FORGE, CENTINEX), the album is the band’s first in ten years and follows the 2009 reissue of their debut, Rain Without End (Candlelight).

Mixed/mastered at Black Lounge Studios in Sweden, A Thin Shell delivers what fans have anxiously awaited from this treasured band. Seven doom-laden and emotive songs that are every bit as heavy as they are catchy fill the impressive recording that officially closes the band’s self-imposed, decade-long hiatus.

“I have wanted to get OCTOBER TIDE back together for some time,” reveals Norrman. “When we decided the time was right, ideas for new songs surprisingly came together nicely. Many sleepless nights were involved, with lots of coffee of course, but the songs were written in flow one after another.”

Discussing the recording process Norrman notes, “we started recording in March of last year. Jonas (Kjellgren) liked what he heard and offered to get it into the (Black Lounge) studio’s schedule even though we didn’t have a label yet. What was meant as a side project so long ago is now my main project and I am very proud of it. We only hope people enjoy it as much as we do.”

SCAR SYMMETRY Added to HYPOCRISY U.S. Tour

Swedish melodic death metallers, SCAR SYMMETRY, have been added to the “A Taste of Extreme Divinity” Tour as direct support to headliners HYPOCRISY. Guitarist Per Nilsson commented:

“Touring the US with our buddies HYPOCRISY, are you f***ing kidding me?! We’d better make reservations at the Betty Ford clinic! Man, is this going to be a party or what?! We haven’t toured North America since 2007, which makes for two albums worth of music never performed live over there. Many thanks to HYPOCRISY for inviting us!”

KATATONIA to Return to the US this Fall

Sweden’s KATATONIA will return to headline their first American tour this fall. Kicking of September 4, the tour will make nineteen stops around the country and will feature an all European line-up with Sweden’s SCAR SYMMETRY joining up with Finland’s INSOMNIUM and SWALLOW THE SUN.

The tour, beginning in Springfield, Virginia will be KATATONIA‘s second visit to the US in a year, the band making their stateside touring debut last fall performing alongside MOONSPELL and North Carolina-based DAYLIGHT DIES. Touring in support of their first live album, Live Consternation, it will be the first time long-time American fans will be able to experience a full set from the highly acclaimed band. Live Consternation, set for American release June 5, is a stunning 5.01 cd/2.0 DVD package features selections from the band’s successful 2006 album, The Great Cold Distance, and choice cuts from their growing and popular catalog.

On-going acclaim for SCAR SYMMETRY‘s 2006 album, Pitch Black Progress, has yielded a second tour of North America for the melodic death metallers from Sweden.

INSOMNIUM will make their stateside debut performing selections from their current/third album, Above the Weeping World. “This is by far the best INSOMNIUM album”, says vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen. “It is the first time we feel we really succeeded in the studio. As a band we are very happy with the end result.” Formed in 1997, INSOMNIUM recorded two demos before signing with Candlelight Records.

Hope is the third album from rising Finnish doom/death band SWALLOW THE SUN. Featuring a guest appearance by KATATONIA vocalist Jonas Renske the album charted in the band’s home country of Finland upon its release. The tour will be the band’s first of America and comes as the band’s profile is rising internationally.

Metal for the Masses Tour: THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILLITY, More

This spring marks the Century Family’s inaugural Metal for the Masses Tour, which will be co-headlined by Swedish titans, THE HAUNTED and DARK TRANQUILLITY, with INTO ETERNITY and SCAR SYMMETRY rounding out the stellar bill.

Peter Dolving (vocals) of THE HAUNTED describes his excitement over the upcoming tour: “Hitting the U.S. with DARK TRANQUILLITY feels fucking immense. You’ll be facing a remorseless monster, a sonic violation machine. I think we’re hitting a level of crushing groove and intensity that we’ve never been close to. We’re all slowly losing our minds. It’s one of those things – with this many people coming out to these shows, there’s nothing else to do than play ‘til you’re within an inch of your life. The body screams for mercy, but that shit rocks! This tour will blow you away.”

DARK TRANQUILLITY triumphantly returns with Fiction, a scorching effort that will undoubtedly add an exhilarating new chapter to the genre’s storied history. They hold the esteemed distinction as being one of the bands responsible for founding an entirely new genre of death metal in the early ’90s, which came to be known as “The Gothenburg Sound.” With Fiction, they revitalize the genre they helped to create and further cement their status as one of the scene’s most influential metal bands. Be sure to visit www.darktranquillity.com to check out the blistering new track “Focus Shift.”

Mikael Stanne (vocals) of DARK TRANQUILLITY states: “We can’t imagine a cooler tour than this. THE HAUNTED, one of my favorite Swedish bands and long time friends are coming with INTO ETERNITY, whom we have briefly hung out with and looking forward to seeing again. It will be great to come to the U.S. once again and to finally bring the complete DARK TRANQUILLITY experience to you all. Expect tons of tunes from different albums as well as some brand new stuff from Fiction. We look forward to seeing you all again real soon.”

Tim Roth (guitars) of INTO ETERNITY states: “This will be a perfect tour for us. All the guys in the band dig these bands, so we are excited by this killer metal package. I remember playing the Rock Hard Festival 2004 with DARK TRANQUILLITY. They blew me away and I went up to them after a few beers and asked them to take us on tour. Now, three years later it is happening. It will be great to see the legendary HAUNTED every night. I think this will be an amazing package for the fans. We hope to see everyone on the road very soon.”

Per Nilsson (lead guitars) of SCAR SYMMETRY comments: “We’ve all been playing in bands for years, but we’ve never experienced or had this level of support before. We’re really glad and excited to be a part of this great package, as well as getting the chance to play on American soil for the first time. We’ve unfortunately been forced to cancel our performance at this year’s edition of Progpower U.K. in March, but when it comes to choosing between doing one gig in England and touring North America for almost a month, the decision isn’t really that hard to make.”
