NAPALM DEATH’s Mitch Harris Launches New Project, MENACE

MenaceLast month, Season of Mist announced the signing of MENACE, the brainchild of NAPALM DEATH axeman Mitch Harris. MENACE‘s debut album is entitled Impact Velocity and will hit the stores on March 14th (March 18th in North America). Impact Velocity features contributions from Derek Roddy (drums), Fred Leclercq (bass), Nicola Manzan (violin, cello, viola), Shane Embury (bass), and Russ Russell (producer and navigator of paradoxology).

MENACE is a project for those who dare to be challenged. It is a journey across genres; neither claiming nor conforming to any particular known style, and a result of all musical history and culture.

Mitch comments: “The band is called MENACE, but to me, it is more than just a band or a solo project. It is the result of my life’s work. It’s a concept that has been in production for some time with most of the songs and intense work done in the last two years. The initial idea for MENACE began with a plan to work with Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY) and drummer Brann Dailor (MASTODON). Although Brann recorded two songs initially, his responsibilities with MASTODON didn’t allow time for such an intricate collaboration. In fact, we all became incredibly busy and as a result, new directives evolved, and to achieve my goal for MENACE I needed to see the album through myself.

“To me, MENACE is the old meeting the new; heavy and melodic, descriptive and adventurous, epic and futuristic, carnal and primitive, and so on. MENACE brings unrealized dreams closer to fruition. It is about overcoming loss and hardship, and a combination of many interests, including spiritual philosophy, psychology, science, physics, theatrics, the supernatural, the paranormal, film, poetry, photography, art, sculpture and video; the things I’ve focused all my energy on over the last twenty years. It’s an organic meets technological approach to exploration and self discovery through a direction I term audio-installationism (A.I.).”

Harris concludes, “Those familiar with my previous work will be in for a surprise and should expect the unexpected, but I’m a firm believer that even the most improbable dreams should be explored. MENACE is a statement in itself, a way of saying that there is always a way forward, no matter how difficult it seems. If you are still alive, then there is still something to achieve.”

NAPALM DEATH Reveal New Album Title

NAPALM DEATH bassist Shane Embury recently revealed the title of their forthcoming interview in an interview with Paul Travers at Suite101.com.

“We’ve got about seventeen songs together,” Embury said. “I guess it’s moving on again from the last album [2006’s Smear Campaign]. It’s still very fast and hopefully heavy. There’s a couple of strange kind of moments in the music, with a little more experimentation and a little more discordance in the guitar perhaps. I think Barney’s [Greenway] trying to move forward vocally in some areas like he did on tracks like ‘Smear Campaign‘ and ‘Persona Non Grata‘. The album is gonna be called Time Waits For No Slave and, yep, it’s going along rather well.”

The British band’s thirteenth full-length studio album is tentatively due before the end of the year through Century Media Records.

MNEMIC: New Album Passenger Out on Feb. 6th; US Tour with SOILWORK

Self-professed “fusion future metal” band MNEMIC have named their upcoming third studio album Passenger, which is scheduled for release in Europe on February 2nd and in North America on February 6th.

In regards to the potent lyrical content, MNEMIC guitarist Mircea states:

“It’s thematically built around the meaning of existence, or in other words, the philosophy of Existentialism. There are several philosophical positions – one of them being the value and meaning of the world around the individual, and the other is that Existentialism is often associated with anxiety, dread, awareness of death, and freedom. We chose this subject and theme mainly because it’s so vast, and second, because we have always been big fans of Stanly Kubrick‘s 2001: A Space Odyssey movie. We wanted to do something like that, just with music and lyrics.”

Produced by MNEMIC, FEAR FACTORY‘s Christian Olde Wolbers, and Warren Riker (DOWN, CROWBAR, THE FUGEES) at Track Record Studios (KISS, MEGADETH, AEROSMITH) in Los Angeles and mixed by fellow countryman Tue Madsen (HALFORD, THE HAUNTED) at Antfarm Studios in Denmark, 2007’s Passenger will feature guest vocal appearances by Jeff Walker (CARCASS, BRUJERIA) and Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH, BRUJERIA) and artwork by Asterik Studios (ANTHRAX, UNEARTH). Photos from Passenger‘s recording session can be viewed here.
The tracklisting for Passenger is as follows:
01. “Humanaut
02. “In The Nothingness Black
03. “Meaningless
04. “Psykorgasm
05. “Pigfuck
06. “In Control
07. “Electric I’d Hypocrisy
08. “Stuck Here
09. “What’s Left
10. “Shape Of The Formless
11. “The Eye On Your Back
Japanese Bonus Track: “Zero Synchronized

MNEMIC are currently preparing to shoot a video for “Meaningless” at Revolver Studios in Gothenberg, Sweden with Revolver film director Patric Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, IN FLAMES).
