The End Records Signs TODAY IS THE DAY; New Album Re-Issues in the Works

The End Records is pleased to announce the signing of TODAY IS THE DAY for their upcoming new album, in addition to the acquisition of their 10-album catalog. The End Records will release the new album in 2017 in commemoration of the band’s 25th anniversary, followed by the catalog re-issues, which feature exclusive, never-before seen and heard bonus material from the band’s deep archives!

Currently in the studio are visionary frontman/founding member Steve Austin (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Trevor Thomas (bass), and Douglas Andrae (drums). From the studio, the album will be mastered by Maor Appelbaum. When asked about the new album sound, Austin described it as a “wide open devastation of the human soul – a diary of un-filtered anger and emotion detailing the Human Experience and the struggle to survive.”

The catalogue re-issues fall on the 20th anniversary of their seminal album Temple Of The Morning Star. Says Austin, “I am extremely psyched to be re-issuing the Today Is The Day catalog with Andreas Katsambas, a long-time fan of the band. For the re-issues, I searched my archives and pulled loads of photos, un-released tracks, demos, and video to paint the rest of the picture. I wanna share a lot of those experiences, to hopefully expose a lot of the real life behind all my music.”  Further details can be found here.

TODAY IS THE DAY reigns as one of the most influential bands of the past two decades. The band’s violent and anthemic style, which blends metal, noise, psychedelia, and rock, has won worldwide acclaim ever since the debut album, Supernova, first hit in the early 90’s. Ten studio albums have been released on such labels as Amphetamine Reptile, Relapse, and Southern Lord — including modern-day classics like Willpower, Temple of the Morning Star, and In the Eyes of God. The band’s lineup has included such musicians as Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher, who would later go on to form MASTODON.

COMPLETE FAILURE – Perversions of Guilt

When a man of Steve Austin‘s artistic stature claims that COMPLETE FAILURE are the future of grind, it’s best to sit up and take note. Given the fact that there aren’t many grind bands to begin with, the margin for falling into mediocrity or being indistinguishable from the rest of the pack is very high. Thankfully, COMPLETE FAILURE come out of nowhere and deliver on the excellent Perversions of Guilt. One of the best aspects of the album is the fact that the songs carry their own character and display enough diversity within their musical context to stay interesting and fresh. Though there are plenty of blast beats and a brutal wall of guitar and bass, it’s the way in which the band mixes things up that really separates themselves from the pack. In the end, the ferocity and intensity never relent. Vocalist Joemack does a great job at giving the album a feel of reckless abandon as well as wide-eyed intensity with his killer vocals. Sixth track, “Cured Through Degradent Criticism,” provides a break from the first half of the album with its slow, ominous vibe that morphs into a blast fest and then back again. Final track, “A Disinviting Self Restraint Through Oddities of Remorse,” clocks in at 10 minutes and sees the band bellowing out its last gasps of energy. COMPLETE FAILURE manage to combine the most sonically violent aspects of hardcore, crust and grind while retaining an old school feel in the vein of such bands as ASSUCK and TERRORIZER. If this is the way the band sounds on their debut, the thought of their future output is a scary thing. (Supernova Records)

TODAY IS THE DAY – Axis of Eden

Steve Austin is one underground music’s ultimate survivors. He has reinvented his vision in TODAY IS THE DAY numerous times throughout the years not to mention introducing the world to two of today’s biggest metal acts: LAMB OF GOD and MASTODON. While most bands would have folded following the amount of lineup and record company changes, Austin has endured. He managed to soldier on, delivering his most powerful, focused release in years with Axis of Eden. Aiding and abetting Austin in his mission of destruction and chaos is none other than death metal elite drummer Derek Roddy (MALEVOLENT CREATION, HATE ETERNAL, NILE, etc.) whose fast and furious drumming propels much of the album on tracks such as “IED,” “Broken Promises and Dead Dreams,” and “Total Resistance.” Meanwhile bassist Chris Debari‘s serpentine bass lines create an unstoppable groove on “Circus Maximus” and the disharmonic “The Worst Thing That Ever Happened to Me.” As expected, much of the energy and power of Axis of Eden is the result of Austin‘s painstaking performances and while his fury and anguish is pronounced throughout the entire proceedings, he also manages to get under the listener’s skin with the creepy “Free at Last” and the ominous title cut. A much more concise work than his ambitious yet somewhat overindulgent Sadness Will Prevail and the chaotic Kiss the Pig, Axis of Eden is a nightmarish descent in to the trappings of one of the most tortured voices underground. Welcome to back to the abyss. (Supernova Records)
