SUNN O))) and ULVER Team Up for Terrestrials

SUNN O))) and ULVER have teamed up for a collaboration entitled, Terrestrials.  The result of this union is a three-track recording; “a trio of movements which flow like magma beneath the Earth’s crust, sonically uninhibited, unpredictably cosmic, haunting and stirring, yet simultaneously ceremonious and beautiful.”

Southern Lord shall release Terrestrials in February 2014.

NADER SADEK “Mayhem” Art Exhibit Now Open in Philadelphia

Nader SadekFamed artist and visual effects director and driving force behind the all-star death metal project that bears his name, NADER SADEK is being featured as part of a group exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia.

The exhibit, which runs from February 6th until July 28th, 2013, will feature masks worn by Attila Cshiar during his performances with SUNN O))) and MAYHEM. The masks where designed and fabricated  by NADER SADEK in his NYC studio in 2007. MAYHEM then commissioned SADEK to make their stage set for their US shows in 2009, for which he sculpted a flesh and bone style version of  the band’s original logo.

BORIS @ The El Rey Theatre, Los Angeles (8/27/10)

Last night, Japan’s BORIS polluted Los Angeles with their sweet, amplified, audial nectar. Playing to a packed El Rey Theatre, the band showcased songs from their recently released 7″ series Japanese Heavy Rock Hits. The set also included some of their usual winners… “Farewell,” “Pink,” “1970“, “A Bao a Qu,” “Rainbow” with Wata on vocals, etc.

Distortion was at deliciously high volume, though better, sound-wise, from the back of the venue. Up front, house right (where I was) was overpowered by Michio Kurihara‘s guitars providing an unfortunately unbalanced mix of BORIS‘ wall-of-sound.

The band closed with the almost 20 minute “Untitled” track off their latest full-length of new material, Smile. The house lights came on during the epic, but the band played on… and loudly.

Check out some snapshots from the show…

(which I, @roycifer, will be in attendance).
