SLAYER to Perform Seasons in the Abyss, MEGADETH to Perform Rust in Peace Live

MEGADETH and SLAYER have confirmed that they will each perform, start to finish, their 1990 releases – SLAYER‘s world-wide, million-selling Seasons In The Abyss and MEGADETH‘s Platinum Rust In Peace – on the upcoming Canadian and American Carnage Tours. With SLAYER and MEGADETH co-headlining, TESTAMENT will be special guest on all dates.

“Right after the surgery,” said Tom Araya (SLAYER), “I could tell that the issue was fixed. There’s no more pain, it just feels really good. I’m really excited and I’m anxious to get together with the rest of the guys and start rehearsing again. We cancelled two tours, and I don’t feel great about that, but I couldn’t deal with the pain anymore, and that’s now completely gone. SLAYER, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT Announce New Dates for the “American Carnage” North American Tour

SLAYER and MEGADETH are thrilled to announce the new, confirmed routing for the American Carnage North American Tour, which will commence with the rescheduled Canadian Carnage East dates in Quebec City on Friday, July 23. SLAYER will then head to Europe for a run of festival dates, returning to kick off the American Carnage leg in Albany, NY on August 11. American Carnage will play 26 dates across the United States and Eastern Canada up to the Labor Day weekend, ending in Portland, OR on September 4. TESTAMENT will be special guest on all shows. Tickets purchased for the American Carnage shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for these rescheduled dates. Complete information regarding ticket sales can be found at www.slayer.net, www.megadeth.com, and www.testamentlegions.com.

Due to venue availability and other conflicts, the shows originally scheduled in El Paso, Houston, Nashville, Duluth, and Louisville cannot be rescheduled at this time, and ticket holders may obtain refunds at point of purchase. However, new cities have been added to the American Carnage itinerary, with dates now scheduled in Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego, and Sacramento. The confirmed, complete itinerary is below.

The American Carnage Tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to SLAYER‘s vocalist/bassist, Tom Araya‘s ongoing, minimally-invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a Cervical Radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate. That surgery took place early last week.

“The doctors said that Tom‘s surgery went very smoothly and was a resounding success,” said Rick Sales, long-time SLAYER manager. “He’s home now, doing really well, and he said the numbness in his fingers had already diminished considerably.”

Shortly after the surgery, SLAYER‘s Kerry King received a text from Tom: “Awake and feeling good, actually whatever he did, it feels better.”

SLAYER, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT Tour Cancelled; Tom Araya Forced to Undergo Back Surgery

The American and Canadian Carnage Tour, featuring SLAYER, MEGADETH, and TESTAMENT, have been cancelled due to SLAYER‘s Tom Araya needing to undergo back surgery.

Araya began experiencing back problems while on the band’s Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. Upon returning from that tour, he saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. Initially declining surgery, the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms. The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.

SLAYER manager Rick Sales commented, “Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot, but they just haven’t handled the problem, so he’s biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month. As unfortunate as this is for so many people – the MEGADETH and TESTAMENT camps, the concerts’ promoters, and, of course, the fans – Tom‘s health is the number one priority, and this has to happen.”

The tour, which was set to kick off January 18th, will be rescheduled. Tickets already purchased for those shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

MEGADETH, SLAYER, TESTAMENT to Team Up for “American Carnage” Tour

MEGADETH and SLAYER have announced that they will co-headline the “American Carnage” tour. TESTAMENT will be opening all date on the tour.

American Carnage” will kick off on January 18 in Seattle, WA for a 26-date trek across North America that will include the six Canadian dates postponed earlier this month. Tickets for most shows go on sale this Friday, November 20. Ticketmaster is offering a special presale for most shows from Wednesday, November 18 at 10am until Thursday, November 19 at 10pm.

The tour is the first time that MEGADETH and SLAYER will have toured the U.S. together since 1991’s epic “Clash of the Titans” tour. To celebrate that and in recognition of the tough economic times that many of their fans are having, MEGADETH and SLAYER have decided to roll back the price of a chunk of tickets at every U.S. show to the “1991 price” of $10.00. These specially-priced tickets will be limited and when they’re gone, they’re gone. MEGADETH has also teamed with iloveallaccess.com to provide an Ultimate Fan Package including premium seats, meet and greets, pre-show parties and more.

In addition, TESTAMENT – who was also on the “Clash of the Titans” bill, will be Special Guests on the entire tour, marking the first time that all three bands have shared a stage together in more than 18 years, and making this a “must see” metal event.

Slayer and Megadeth are also re-scheduling the east coast leg of the “Canadian Carnage” tour, postponed from this fall.

Ex-STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN Members Join Forces in TENET

Ex-EXODUS vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza and lead guitarist Glen Alvelais (FORBIDDEN/ex-TESTAMENT) has joined forces with ex-STRAPPING YOUNG LAD members Jed Simon, Byron Stroud and Gene Hoglan in a project known as TENET. The debut album, Sovereign, is set for an Aug. 25th release. While it took a rather long while to launch this entity, TENET are nowset to mercilessly explode onto the global metal scene with a high quality, furious thrashing old school metal album. Be sure to visit www.myspace.com/tenetforce for all news updates.

Guitarist and TENET mastermind Jed Simon comments as follows: “After years of work, setbacks, more work and more setbacks…I am so happy that this ‘storm in my mind’ has finally come to fruition. So, TENET has now become a band. It is no longer ‘I’. It has evolved, grown up and become more than I ever thought it would be. Without the help of Zetro, Gene, Glen and Byron, this very well could still be residing in the furthest corner of my brain…this album is very personal for me and the anger that has driven it is unlike anything I’ve ever felt. This album is the shedding of a skin that I had been carrying around far too long.”

APESHIT’s Top Metal Albums of 2008

We finally got off our asses and did it.  It’s already the year 2009, but we’ve complied a list of our top albums of 2008.  Compiling such a list is never easy, and 2008 was no exception.  Maybe it was a lack of albums that really stood out, or maybe we just weren’t paying enough attention.  Regardless, we took a quick look back on the metal albums we felt were notable in 2008.

TESTAMENT Members to Play New Year’s Eve Show in SF

Members of Bay Area thrash legends TESTAMENT plan to ring in the New Year with a special hometown show. The band will be performing at Fat City in San Francisco on December 31. The other bands will include DUBLIN DEATH PATROL, DRAGONLORD, and fellow local thrashers LAAZ ROCKIT.

“It’s gonna be a fun party with a bunch of friends,” says singer Chuck Billy. “It’ll be our band, my side project, Eric’s side project, and our friends from LAAZ ROCKIT. We thought it was a good idea for all us friends to get together and jam, even if Alex is away playing with TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA. We’ll be able to play some stuff with Glen Drover. The show is gonna rock from start to finish, so make sure to get there early!”

Guitarist Eric Peterson also commented on the show: “We’re excited to play New Year’s Eve in our hometown. We haven’t played there in a while, and we decided to play in a smaller club to have more a of a friend/party vibe. Be sure to get there early as my side project DRAGONLORD goes on first!”

The show starts at 8PM at Fat City in San Francisco.
