Hopefully, this signals more to come from the band. Last December, Soulseller Records reissued the long out-of-print masterpiece, Written in Waters, with the original artwork. Check out the details here.
Norwegian avant-garde metal trio VIRUS will be releasing their long-awaited new album, The Black Flux, on November 10th through Season of Mist. The follow-up to 2003’s twisted post-rock debut, Carheart, is said to encompass the same unique style of experimental rock/metal.
After the debut, VIRUS went off the radar for several years, not least because of songwriter/vocalist/drummer Carl-Michael “Czral” Eide‘s 2005 accident, falling five stories and making a two year-recovery.
The Black Flux was produced by Bård Ingebrigtsen at Amper Tone Studios (ENSLAVED, AURA NOIR) and features guitarist, Petter “Plenum” Berntsen (AUDIOPAIN), and drummer Einar “Einz” Sjursø (BEYOND DAWN, INFERNÖ, LAMENTED SOULS).
Album track listing is as follows:
1. “Stalkers of the Drift”
2. “As Virulent as You”
3. “Lost Peacocks”
4. “The Black Flux”
5. “Intermission: The Ocean Highway”
6. “Inward Bound”
8. “Shame Eclipse”
9. “Strange Calm”

Norway’s VIRUS, masterminded by Czral (a.k.a. Carl-Michael Eide, VED BUENS ENDE, DØDHEIMSGARD), have posted a rough-cut of a new song on their MySpace page. Czral talks about the track:
“We’ve just posted a new song. It’s a rough-mix WITHOUT BASS. Just like ‘Lost Peacocks‘, we’ve chosen to post it without bass. The reason for this, is that the bass is such a big element in VIRUS, and we want all of you to still hear something new when the album finally is out.
“‘Stalkers of the Drift‘, is the name of this baby. Not as massive as ‘Lost Peacocks‘. A different structure altogether. Slow and sad in the beginning, and building up towards a nice climax in the end. Lyrics are written together with Amniotic Sac, a lost girl from the dead city of Bolton, England. We’ve posted the lyrics as a bulletin to all our friends.
“Well, we’re still in the studio. Recording vocals. The bass is being done, as we speak, at Plenum‘s place. All by himself. Then, of course, we’ll have the mixing, the details, some guitars, and baking. Lots of baking. In spite of all this, we still hope The Black Flux is gonna be out spring-time, even though the time-noose is tightening quite a bit.
“PS: listening to this song more than twice might cause eczema.”
“Stalkers of the Drift” lyrics:
Feral aeroplanes, stalkers of the drift
You float inside the hollow waves
Like sleepwalkers on the ocean highway
See the blind cavalry, in their concave masks,
All lined up to fowl the beaches
Dead faces painted in the sands
They mimic themselves, hiding in the wastelands
Empty figures on the crests of the dunes
The desert sculptures
Paying homage to the wounds
With broken limbs they dance
The snakes and their proud owners
On parade out in the iron rain
The sun retreats as the caves drink the rivers
The feral aeroplanes (fuelled on black milk)
Chasing the winds
Upon the ocean highway
Gliding on raw silk
Cheered by broken clapping hands

Norway’s VIRUS have uploaded a demo version of a new song, “Lost Peacocks,” online here. The demo track does not have bass and is unmixed. The song will appear in its final form on the band’s upcoming album, The Black Flux, via Jester Records.
VIRUS is composed of Carl-Michael Eide aka Czral (VED BUENS ENDE), Petter “Plenum” Berntsen (AUDIOPAIN), and Einar “Esso” Sjursø (BEYOND DAWN).
Norwegian avant garde band, VED BUENS ENDE, has called it a day once again after recently announcing their reformation. Here is official word from the band:
“Dear VBE freaks…
“I’m afraid we have given false hope to you all.
“VED BUENS ENDE is no more. It’s dead and buried for good.
After a while of rehersing and writing new material, it became apparent that Vikotnic and myself have grown apart musically. Our styles have developed in different directions through the years passed since Written in Waters. The songs we wrote together for what was to become the new album became mediocre, and the songs we made each on our own became just too different. It would have become a very schizophrenic album if we’d continue, and none of us would have been happy with the outcome.
“As most of you probably know, Vikotnic‘s band DHG (DØDHEIMSGARD) is out with a new album. Supervillain Outcast is getting the attention it deserves, and will be a great success. So that’s were he’ll direct his focus from now on. Vikotnic will have his hands full for sure.
“As for myself, I am finished writing the material for the next VIRUS album. It will contain much of the material meant for what was to become the next VED BUENS ENDE record that I wrote.
“VIRUS is very much in the same vein as VBE. The same style and genre, at least in regards to the experimental parts of what we did back in the Written in Waters days. It’s almost like a continuation of VBE.
“On VIRUS‘ debut album, Carheart, we fooled around with many different sorts of atmospheres. This time around it will become darker all the way through. And more fluent. The music kinda floats. A black flux. But we’ll for sure keep that absurd twist that became our trademark through our debut album.
“For those of you who know the Carheart album, one can compare the new stuff with the title track, ‘Road‘, ‘Hustler‘ and ‘Be Elevator‘. But of course, it’ll be a new album, so…
“The lineup in VIRUS will be the same as on the debut. Plenum on bass, Einar Esso on drums, and myself on vocals and guitars.
“We’ll start the recordings quite soon. I hope it’ll be finished early winter this year. Or late autumn. Maybe out in January ’08. We’re signing a deal with Season of Mist Records.
“We recorded a couple of songs (like a demo) in November last year, and we’ll post those songs as a ‘teaser’ as soon as we have mixed them.
“This VBE MySpace site will slowly mutate into being a VIRUS site. It won’t happen until we’re on a roll and the album release is approaching. In the meanwhile, you can check out our current site dedicated to the Carheart album on www.myspace.com/czral. There are a couple of songs from the album there, check it out! Anyway, the album is obtainable through Jester Records, web only: http://www.jester-records.com/shop.php or you can download it, of course. I’m down with that, I’m not Lars Ulrich.
“I`ll update this blog as soon as something happens.
“Next time boys, next time.
