ARCH ENEMY Commence Recording New Studio Album

Swedish melodic death metal titan, ARCH ENEMY, has begun recording a new studio album, the long awaited successor to 2007’s acclaimed Rise of the Tyrant album. After releasing the Tyrants of the Rising Sun – Live in Japan live DVD/CD (2008) and the re-recordings album, The Root Of All Evil (2009), the band’s ninth studio album will mark a return to new, original material.

The yet-to-be-named album will be self-produced by ARCH ENEMY, and engineered/mixed by Rickard Bengtsson (whom produced 2005’s Doomsday Machine). The band has recently entered Sweetspot Studio in the south of Sweden for the album’s recording process.

Here is the first studio report from the band:

Watch DARK TRANQUILLITY’s 2010 Tour Projection Video for “The Fatalist”

DARK TRANQUILLITY have posted the projection video for “The Fatalist” that was played during their 2010 shows. According to the band, the images were painted by guitarist/artist Niklas Sundin using Alchemy 0.0.8, screen grabbed and then time stretched to 10-20 times the original painting speed. This video is absolutely brilliant.

BEHEMOTH’s Nergal Checks in from the Hospital: Bone Marrow Donor Found

BEHEMOTH frontman, Nergal, reports in from the hospital to give us an update on his Leukemia treatments thus far.

“Hello, everyone! I’m still in the hospital but in quite a good shape so I write to let you know about my health and the further stages of treatment. I’ve been through four planned chemotherapies and have stayed in hospital for over 3 months now. I’ve gone through the whole therapy smoothly, though I also had a couple of difficult moments. All this means I have finished the stage of pharmacological treatment and I am about to start the irradiation and then the marrow transplant. Yes, we’ve found a donor! Having searched for months, the foundation has found a person whose genotype is identical to mine. It would have been difficult to achieve if it wasn’t for the support of so many people. Most of all, I want to express my admiration for Dorota – my wonderful and devoted fiancée. She did everything she could to help me and many other people, regardless of adversities and comments which were often unfair. Your help is invaluable! Thank you! I love you. On behalf of me and all other people ill I thank everyone who registered in the bone marrow bank regardless of origin, skin colour or religion. The concerts for charity have been organized all over the world and people of show business, bands and, most of all, the fans got deeply involved. You are beyond great! One of you made my transplant possible, but remember, your attitude may save many others in need. So I appeal to everyone: don’t stop the madness! The march for victory continues! Horns up!”

Nergal was diagnosed with Leukemia this past July and has been undergoing treatment in Poland since then.

Video of the Day: APESHIT’s First and Only Promo Video

Though APESHIT has been around since July 2002, it was only until 2006 that we finally got around to the idea of a promo video. I had to babysit my six year old cousin one evening and I was reviewing promos for coverage for the site. I checked out the then brand new ROB ZOMBIE video collection as my little cousin got his first taste of rock music, monsters, blood, and scantily clad women. He was instantly mesmerized. Right afterward, I blasted the reissue of RINGWORM‘s The Promise and my cousin just started rockin’ hard out big time on his own. I quickly grabbed my camera and captured him as he spontaneously went apeshit.

Though we never promoted the video, word got back to RINGWORM and they posted it on their myspace page with the announcement that their singer, Human Furnace, had been replaced. Check it out here.

This is totally unrehearsed and you don’t have to understand Korean to appreciate my cousin (though it certainly helps). Enjoy!
