SOILENT GREEN Record Theme Song for Adult Swim’s Squidbillies

New Orleans grinders, SOILENT GREEN, have recorded the opening theme song for the fourth season of Adult Swim‘s Squidbillies animated series. Here’s what vocalist Ben Falgoust had to say:

Squidbillies is the best cartoon…excuse me…show on TV/Internet/Cable around! I felt that way before we did the theme tracks and I feel even stronger about it since I’ve seen the new episodes, despite our involvement with the program, of course.

“It was an awesome and strange experience to track these theme songs for the Squidbillies. It was pretty shocking when were contacted by them to be involved with this project. I give credit to the rest of the guys in the band for pulling it off from a strange but fun perspective in incorporating SOILENT GREEN‘s style into the theme song for the show.”

Season four of Squidbillies kicks off May 17th and new episodes will air Sunday nights at midnight (ET, PT).

SOILENT GREEN previously toured with Adult Swim‘s animated death metal band, DETHKLOK (of Metalocalypse).

Metalocalypse: Season Two DVD Available December 2nd

Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse: Season Two is set for a Decmeber 2nd release as a two-DVD set.  The release will contain all 18 episodes plus a slew of hidden special features that the fans will have to find.

Created by Brendon Small (Home Movies) and Tommy Blacha (Da Ali G Show), Metalocalypse follows the on and off-stage adventures of the fictional DETHKLOK, the insanely popular animated Norwegian heavy metal band.  In addition to being the world’s most brutal band members, Nathan Explosion, William “Murderface,” Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Toki Wartooth and Pickles are also stupid…dangerously stupid.  From sold out concerts to late-night snack-attacks, the animated heavy metal band creates a wave of mayhem, death and destruction wherever they go, but thanks to their “really good lawyer” they manage to walk away legally unscathed on every occasion.  Since debuting on Adult Swim in 2006, the series has become one of the highest-rated original series on the network and the second season was watched by more than five million 18-34 year-old viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.  Moreover, the band’s debut CD – Dethklok: The Dethalbum – has become the fastest selling death metal album of all time since debuting at #21 on Billboard’s Top 100 list, and a real-live version of the animated band led by Brendon Small recently completed a sold-out 28-city tour.

Metalocalypse: Season Two DVD’s pre-sale date is October 28th and will retail for $29.98.

DETHKLOK – The Dethalbum

The Dethalbum features songs by the animated five-piece “extreme metal” band, DETHKLOK, from the Metalocalypse animated series, a show that’s really about the comedy of this abrasive genre of music we know and love. While DETHKLOK is supposed to be the biggest, heaviest, most brutal band on the planet, their music doesn’t quite convey that. There aren’t blast-beats, tempos are about OBITUARY “fast,” and some of the riffs/leads are a little too easy on the ears (think ARCH ENEMY). But that’s if you’re a seasoned metal bastard. Fans of the show who may not be quite familiar with the real “dark side” of metal, will find The Dethalbum to be delightfully dark and destructive. Songs are still true to extreme metal form. Guitars are downtuned, drum god Gene Hoglan (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, ex-DEATH) pounds heavily, leads are flashy and tastefully executed by show creator, Brandon Small, (who sings and plays all instruments, except drums)…and the lyrics even revolve around the familiar theme of death (surprise, surprise)! Those familiar with the show will recall “Murmaider” from the Dethwater episode, “Awaken” from the Dethtroll episode, and “Birthday Dethday” from the Happy Dethday episode, (amongst others) from the show. Despite some impressive guitar noodling by Small, DETHKLOK‘s musical and lyrical intelligence hover quite low, which aid in capturing the sometimes ridiculousness of extreme metal. The Dethalbum is an enjoyable album that is a necessary companion piece for fans of Metalocalypse (especially the deluxe edition which comes with the “Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle” from the show’s pilot). Others, however, will be lost on the stupidly, humorous innuendo. (Williams Street)

Dethalbum features a guest appearance by drummer Gene Hoglan (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DEATH, TESTAMENT). He commented, “What a killer metal record! I can’t wait for everyone else to hear it, and since it has now been slated for a September 25th release, that is now gonna be sooner than later, especially with leakage. And yes, it appears that we are going on tour with it as well! The logistics are being worked on as we speak, but it looks like it’s gonna be a real killer, multi-media show. I’m looking real forward to that, I’ve even suspended the booking of a ton of clinics to clear my schedule to be available.”
