INTRONAUT to Release The Direction of Last Things This November

Progsters INTRONAUT have revealed release details for their upcoming fifth studio album. Mixed by Devin Townsend, The Direction of Last Things will be available November 13, 2015 via Century Media Records.

The initial LP run of the album will be limited to 2,000 copies worldwide and presented in an awe-inspiring package. This double LP piece will be housed in a matte-finished gatefold with a spot UV print over highlighted art elements. Collectors will also be treated to a rarely utilized packaging element, a printed inner-gatefold tube, which not only houses the LP’s, but also a 12″x24″ poster, showcasing the full cover art in all its glory. Just when you thought it was over, LP’s will be pressed on mint green & black splatter, red & black marble, solid dark-green or standard black wax with an etching, which surrounds the music grooves, on side D. Actual color-run numbers to be announced at a future date.

“I don’t care how cliché it is to say; this is our best record yet! This is INTRONAUT at our most technical, brutal, catchy, and straight up fearless. I haven’t been this proud of an album since we recorded our first demo 10 years ago. We took a somewhat unusual approach and tracked most of it live over the course of four days, then handed it off to Devin Townsend to mix. The result is pure magic. Prepare your earholes for fornication,” states frontman Sacha Dunable.

On the heels of the new album release, INTRONAUT will hit the road on The Coma Ecliptic Tour III featuring BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, ENSLAVED and NATIVE CONSTRUCT.

“It’s been over a year since our last North American tour. What better way to dust it off than with these three amazing bands. These shows are going to be insane, and we can’t wait to play some new songs for you guys!” adds Sacha.  Tour dates can be found at

TESSERACT, INTRONAUT, CLOUDKICKER Spring North American Tour Announced

UK progressive rock band TESSERACT will once again supporting their critically acclaimed Altered State album. Former touring partners, INTRONAUT, who will be coming fresh off a tour of their own with BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME and DEAFHEAVEN, will be direct support. To make these events even more special, instrumentalist/DIY prog artist, CLOUDKICKER, will be touring for the first time ever with the members of INTRONAUT as his backing band.

“Last year we spent a few short weeks with a bunch of west coast musicians called Intronaut, stalwarts of the scene who have been honing their skills for years into an awesome blend of progressive jazz tinged metal. For as long as we can remember there has been a home studio producer of genre defying music called CLOUDKICKER. He has until now been restricted to the studio. So, it’s with great pleasure that we get to rejoin our brothers in INTRONAUT, and be a part of CLOUDKICKER‘s first ever tour! This will be seriously fun”

INTRONAUT comments:

“When we first met Ben a few years back and discovered the CLOUDKICKER album ‘Beacons,’ we unanimously fell in love with it and have since bugged him to let us be his band. Now it is finally happening. Intronaut is absolutely over the moon about this once in a lifetime opportunity for CLOUDKICKER fans to hear his stuff live. Sweetening the deal even further is the fact that we get to do the tour with our favorite British chaps in TesseracT. This tour is going to kick ass!”

CLOUDKICKER, aka, Ben Sharp elaborates:

“This just happened to be a time when INTRONAUT was free and, incredibly, I was able to get the entire month of April off from work. We have been in touch since 2010 and they had told me a few times that we could make this happen, but it wasn’t until last fall that I decided to give it an honest effort. Having the professionalism and technical proficiency of a band like Intronaut was the piece of the puzzle that finally encouraged me to pursue this since they are making it so easy for me. I know that when we show up for the first night of the tour everything will be locked in and we can just focus on having a good time.”

Highly skilled technical chops? Check. The ability to traverse many genres? Check. Progressive imagery in the album artwork and album title? Check. Yes, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME are a fully fledged progressive metal band with plenty of musicality about them. The band have grown considerably from their early days when they proudly yet blatantly wore their influences on their sleeves. “Mirrors” opens up The Great Misdirect with delicate guitars and vocals and eventually gives way to the heavy “Obfuscation.” The latter is where the band start to showcase their well-known musical chops via an array of intricate riffs. “Disease, Injury, Madness” is a grab bag of blasting death metal, progressive death metal (i.e. DEATH, CYNIC), and upbeat progressive rock mixed in with light interludes. “Feed Genera – A Feed From Cloud Mountain” takes on playful and almost cabaret/vaudeville, happy sound before whirling into intense metal and then morphing into a light acoustic guitar driven song. “Desert of Song” continues the acoustic guitar stylings with clean vocals where the former track left off. Suprisingly enough, the song does not undergo genre hopping and stays more uniform throughout. The 17:54 closer, “Swim to the Moon,” is the band’s way of ending The Great Misdirect on an as epic scale as they can deliver. At the end of the day, quality songwriting is all that really matters. Unfortunately, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME have yet to have their songwriting abilities catch up to their technical chops as instrumentalists. Their musical vocabulary is quite large and impressive, and they incorporate a wide spectrum of dynamics into The Great Misdirect. However, the album mostly conveys a cut-and-paste feel to the songwriting and the genre hopping during songs is often inexplicable or just awkward. Whatever their rhyme and reason, there’s no denying that BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME are continuing to do what is making their fans rabid. (Victory Records)
