APESHIT’s Top Metal Albums of 2011

2011 was a very productive and enjoyable year for extreme music, perhaps the best in years. Thus, it was not an easy task choosing what we enjoyed best since they were just so many. 2011 also gave us unforgettably bad albums by LOU REED and METALLICA, flops by THE HAUNTED as well as controversial ones by MORBID ANGEL.

We look forward to another strong year in 2012 in which we will celebrate our 10 years online. Cheers for all of your support in 2011! Radikult!!

DECAPITATED – Carnival is Forever

It’s been a long and tragic five years since the world was bestowed with a new DECAPITATED record. Lone returning member, guitarist Vogg, admirably decided to continue the band with a new line-up, that symbolize the best possible tribute to his brother, the late Vitek, and Covan. If there was ever a return that showed no ill effects in the face of tragedy, Carnival is Forever is that return.

The new record picks up where one of the truly classic death metal albums of the 2000’s, Organic Hallucinosis, left off. Carnival is Forever is a progression, an expansion, of those ideas. The trademark DECAPITATED slamming, shifting, circulating, and ultra precise riffs are back alongside the wild time changes played above the relentless, precise drumming. The drugged out, narcotic, and almost nightmarish atmospheres are here as well but are further expanded with clean guitar parts and arguably wilder song shifts between the brutal, clean, and minimalist sections. Guitarist Vogg‘s solos are absolutely excellent and that’s probably why many will considered them too short-lived in the songs.

Songwriting-wise, Carnival is Forever is airtight and created with the same level of focus and precision as the musicianship. Most of the songs range in the four to five minute range while the title track clocks in at 8:49. The aforementioned title track is easily the most narcotic and atmospheric, and sounds similar to OPETH at their most heavy, dark and progressive in parts. There is a very subtle and distinctly DECAPITATED progressive edge to the sound.

So everyone is curious about the new band members. It’s clear that Vogg has chosen the right men for the job. Vocalist Rafal Piotrowski has own his style – abrasive and dry, well enunciated shouts as opposed more traditional death metal vocals. Drummer Kerim “Krimh” Lechner fits the role well with his tight, machine gun playing. Bassist Filip “Heinrich” Halucha aptly fills Marcin “Martin” Rygiel‘s shoes.

Carnival is Forever symbolizes the spirit and excellence of this band. Through everything they’ve been through, DECAPITATED has only grown stronger and better. Easily one of the 2011’s best albums. Hail. (Nuclear Blast Records)

DECAPITATED Announce New Lineup

Poland’s DECAPITATED have announced their new lineup. Joining founding guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka, are Rafal Piotrowski (vocals), Filip “Henrich” Halucha (bass), and Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (drums).

Vogg commented: “I am really happy to announce this short message for all DECAPITATED fans: As you all know, two years after the tragedies we had to suffer, I decided to continue the band. There’s no sense in stopping this amazing thing we built up so many years ago together with Witek [Witold Kieltyka, drummer, R.I.P.], Sauron [Wojciech Wisowicz, the band’s first lead singer], Martin [Marcin Rygiel, the band’s first bassist] and Covan [Adrian Kowanek, second vocalist, still recovering from injuries]. We chose to do our first tour in the U.K. because we have only good memories from this place and we are sure that you guys will support us… We need you!! I am very pleased to announce the new killer line-up of DECAPITATED: Kerim ‘Krimh’ Lechner on drums – he’s a new blood, very talented and used to playing in bands like THORNS OF IVY and TONE INTIMACY; amazing Rafal Piotrowski comes from bands like KETHA and FORGOTTEN SOULS and will take over vocal duties; masterous Filip ‘Heinrich’ Halucha from VESENIA, ROOTWATER, UNSUN and MASACHIST will be destroying the bass! See you all soon! We honestly can’t wait!”

The band will be touring Europe the first half of 2010. A North American tour is on the horizon for the Summer of 2010.

DECAPITATED Announce Plans to Reform with New Members

Wacek “Vogg” Kieltyka, guitarist and founding member of the Polish death metal band DECAPITATED, has announced plans to reform the band following the tragic road accident that occurred in October 2007. Here’s his official announcement:

“It’s time to come back! After a two-year break, DECAPITATED is coming back with new members. The official new line-up for DECAPITATED will be announced at the end of December.

“As you all know, the decision to continue the band was really, really hard for me, but everything I do now is to keep DECAPITATED alive. [Vocalist] Covan‘s situation has not improved much and he is still in bed and unable to function on his own. He still fights to recover as we speak and we are all still 100% behind him and hope for the best. It has been the hardest thing for me to move on without [brother & drummer] Vitek by my side, but he would have wanted me to continue with the band.

“Finally, I have found some great musicians who can continue the work of Vitek and Covan. At the beginning of April, DECAPITATED will start to play our first reunion shows. We will visit the biggest cities in Australia and play some of the biggest summer festivals in Europe. Don’t worry, we won’t forget about the U.K.! After this, the band will concentrate on the making of a new album! I would like to thank all the people who have supported us all this time.”

The band have some touring plans for 2010 including shows in Australia and European festival appearances in May. A North American tour is also being planned for the Summer of 2010. Visit DECAPITATED online for tour dates and more info:
