JESU Secure Permits; To Begin U.S. Tour March 11th

JESU will finally be joining ISIS on tour beginning this Sunday, March 11th, following some troubles getting the proper paperwork for entering the U.S.  JESU mainman Justin K. Broadrick issued the following statement on the matter:

“The impending permits/visas finally cleared for JESU this week; the unforeseen backlog at the U.S embassy in London had somewhat reduced enabling the band to be interviewed and be issued their work permits/visas.

“This means that JESU will perform its first live show in the U.S this Sunday, March 11th in Washington DC at the 9.30 Club and will complete the rest of the tour with ISIS from there on in, performing at the Hydra Head Showcase at SXSW, Austin, Texas on the 15th March along the way.

“Many thanks for your patience and huge apologies to those that missed JESU at earlier shows due to these unforeseen circumstances. A JESU headline tour of the U.S over the next 9 – 12 months will hopefully compensate somewhat, especially since JESU now have permits/visas for 12 months!

“Also thank you for all the kind words and messages we have received, we wish we could reply to them all….”

JESU Unable to Join ISIS Tour Until Permits Secured

As previously reported, JESU have canceled their CD release show and now have been forced to skip out on initial participation on their upcoming tour with ISIS. The band issued the following status on their tour on their official MySpace page:

“We are sorry to report that JESU are still stuck in England and will NOT be playing the Spaceland, L.A headline/release party; work permits for JESU have still not been cleared by U.S officials/customs and the band are not allowed into the U.S until the permits are officially cleared. The band are yet to receive a date of clearance and simply have to wait until they do so before entering the U.S, hence JESU will not be appearing at any shows with ISIS until the permits are available and JESU can leave England.

“Please watch this space for further news; once JESU have their permits we will post confirmation of this and the first show that JESU will play in the U.S. Hopefully the band will not miss more than the first week of this tour, being the bands first tour of the U.S.

“In related JESU live line up news, JESU bass player Diarmuid Dalton will not be playing any of the U.S dates due to being refused a work permit for the U.S for this tour.

Diarmuid has been replaced for this tour by long time collaborator (and fellow Birmingham, England native) bass player Dave Cochrane (Justin and Dave played together in HEAD OF DAVID, SWEET TOOTH, ICE, GOD and now their new project together GREY MACHINE).

“Drummer Ted Parsons has also been unable to make this first JESU U.S tour due to family commitments and has been replaced by drummer Danny Walker, a Los Angeles native who plays for many bands including INTRONAUT.”

JESU – Conqueror

Justin Broadrick has already made his mark with the now-defunct GODFLESH, but the man certainly isn’t resting on his laurels. He’s churned out some refreshing sonics with JESU‘s self-titled debut and last year’s great Silver EP. New album Conqueror follows JESU‘s brand of thick and heavy GODFLESH-tinged dirge. Songs are long and the pace is slow. And as with any JESU release, tracks aren’t instantly engaging. The atonal, brooding nature tests a listener’s patience. Although this time around, the melodies are consistently dreamier. In fact, it seems like Broadrick has adopted a far more pleasant atmosphere on Conqueror compared to some darker and harsher elements found on the Jesu album. “Transfigure” is easily the most instantly ear-friendly tune on the album. Similarly, “Medicine” almost has an almost singable chorus. This is possibly questionable for long-time followers of Broadrick who are used to rust, not polish. But perhaps all is with positive intent as Broadrick has never been one to limit his own capabilities having dabbled in electronic and hip hop beyond his metal and industrial realm. The ethereal sounds of Conqueror flirts with subtle indie rock appeal…albeit with Broadrick‘s signature guitar, familiar voice, and always essential low frequency trembling. Conqueror may not be the most favorable album in JESU‘s young catalog, but it is more evidence that it is truly one Justin K. Broadrick who is thee very conqueror of music. (Hydra Head Records)
