Jesper Strömblad Announces His Departure From IN FLAMES

IN FLAMES guitarist, Jesper Strömblad, has announced that he is quitting the band. Here’s his statement:

“I have decided it is best for me to leave IN FLAMES and to quit the band permanently.

“The last 17 years have been a blast, and I am proud to have been part of this great journey, with the most talented and amazing people anyone can wish to have the privilege to work with.

“I’m also the luckiest guy in the world, to have the BEST fans in the world, who have been supporting me during my difficult times. It means the world to me, and I’m determined to fight and defeat my demons once and for all…. and by the help from you guys, I’m on my way.

“I’m far from done with music, metal, or whatever my direction is taking me, so be sure to hear from me in the future.

“…May the Force be with you!”

The remaining members of IN FLAMES issued the following response:

“We are losing a great guitar player and musician, but in order to keep a very dear friend this is probably for the best.

“If this feels right for Jesper we are behind him 100% on his decision.

“It is way too early to speculate about the future and possible replacements and things like that. However, we can assure you that IN FLAMES will continue as a band, release albums and tour the World.

“The door to IN FLAMES is always open to Jesper. We are, and will always be behind Jesper 100% on his way to recovery.”

LACUNA COIL just embarked on a U.S. tour as direct support to IN FLAMES with THE SWORD and SEEMLESS in the support slots. The group recently completed a highly successful run on the annual Blackest of the Black Tour alongside the legendary DANZIG, labelmates THE HAUNTED, BELPHEGOR, and ASESINO. This is their group’s third U.S. run in support of Karmacode, their highly praised new album.

Andrea Ferro (male vocals) checks in with the following report: “Blackest of The Black was a good experience, and we were especially excited to have a chance to tour again alongside our party bros Kenny and Johnny from TYPE O NEGATIVE, who helped out DANZIG on this tour. We also had the chance to hit some places we never played before like Spokane, Santa Cruz, Tucson and Fresno, which were all amazing. The people’s reactions were simply awesome. The last day in Santa Cruz, DANZIG cancelled so we had to take the role of the headliner, which was all together a really cool experience.

“This led us immediately into two really packed headlining shows in Mexico, where we were met with first class treatment. We haven’t played there since 2001, when we opened for THEATRE OF TRAGEDY. We did a signing session the first day and stayed for almost two hours. Eventually we had to leave, and the fans were following us grabbing our hair and screaming. We felt like the BEATLES in the ‘60s! Both shows were truly amazing, and even if the technical conditions were not really appropriate, the crowd brought everything to a magic level. It’s always amazing how much these people appreciate the fact that you come to their country, they always have such a great time.

“We just began the final portion of our touring for the year after joining up with IN FLAMES, SEEMLESS, and THE SWORD. The first gig in Norfolk was very good, with a lot of people jumping and screaming, so things are already off to a really positive start. Rock on, and we will see you soon.”

RAUNCHY – Death Pop Romance

Denmark’s RAUNCHY have undeservedly flown under the radar for most of their existence. However, their new album, Death Pop Romance, screams for attention and mass appeal. RAUNCHY‘s sound is largely inspired by the more accessible, slick, and melodic stylings of IN FLAMES and SOILWORK‘s current sound. There is an equal mix of clean vocals and death metal snarls that lean more towards the stronger qualities possessed by Speed Strid as opposed to Anders Friden. However, the band retains the bite of its melodic death and thrash metal roots, probably more so than the two aforementioned bands. Death Pop Romance‘s sound is further characterized by a fiery, energetic demeanor and futuristic melodic keyboards. Since each song is structured to be a hit, the album lives and dies on each of them. Some of the vocal hooks are undeniably catchy while others are not quite as strong. There are numerous moments on Death Pop Romance where RAUNCHY flirt with greatness and these moments are what drive you to continue listening until the end. The top dogs of this style better watch their backs as RAUNCHY have matched them pound for pound and are more than happy to take over the throne. (Lifeforce Records America)
