Metal Meets Cats in New Book

It was inevitable.  The worlds of metal and people who love cats have finally converged in a new book, Metal Cats.  The book features photos of musicians, fans, and promoters of metal with their cats, including members of ISIS, AKIMBO, GHOUL, LUDICRA, EXHUMED, MORBID ANGEL, MUNICIPAL WASTE, NAUSEA, PHOBIA, and NAPALM DEATH.

A portion of the proceeds from this book and a series of benefit shows held along the West Coast will go towards one no-kill shelter in each of the four main cities visited. No dogs in Adidog hoodies, only cats this time.

Photographer Alexandra Crockett had the idea to give accolades to local musicians and artists in the metal scene, while also bringing to light no-kill shelters and their importance for animal rights.

CONVERGE and NAPALM DEATH Split 7″EP Coming Soon

Legendary bands CONVERGE and NAPALM DEATH have come together for a split release on Deathwish Inc.

Recorded as part of their new album sessions, CONVERGE offer up the blazing new song “No Light Escapes.” Also on the release, CONVERGE offer a “We Are the World” styled rendition of the influential ENTOMBED classic “Wolverine Blues.” Joining them in tribute is a number of friends including Tomas Lindberg (DISFEAR, AT THE GATES, LOCK UP), Aaron Turner (ISIS, OLD MAN GLOOM, SPLIT CRANIUM), Kevin Baker (APMD, THE HOPE CONSPIRACY), Brian Izzi (TRAP THEM), and more. A new CONVERGE album will surface later in 2012 on Epitaph/Deathwish Inc.

On the flip side, metal pioneers NAPALM DEATH offer up two new aural monsters. First, “Will By Mouth” erupts in classic grind fashion. Also on the release, NAPALM DEATH offer the slower and textural new song “No Impediment To Triumph (Bhopal)“. A deeply resonant number that lyrically sheds light on the horrific Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984.

JESU Secure Permits; To Begin U.S. Tour March 11th

JESU will finally be joining ISIS on tour beginning this Sunday, March 11th, following some troubles getting the proper paperwork for entering the U.S.  JESU mainman Justin K. Broadrick issued the following statement on the matter:

“The impending permits/visas finally cleared for JESU this week; the unforeseen backlog at the U.S embassy in London had somewhat reduced enabling the band to be interviewed and be issued their work permits/visas.

“This means that JESU will perform its first live show in the U.S this Sunday, March 11th in Washington DC at the 9.30 Club and will complete the rest of the tour with ISIS from there on in, performing at the Hydra Head Showcase at SXSW, Austin, Texas on the 15th March along the way.

“Many thanks for your patience and huge apologies to those that missed JESU at earlier shows due to these unforeseen circumstances. A JESU headline tour of the U.S over the next 9 – 12 months will hopefully compensate somewhat, especially since JESU now have permits/visas for 12 months!

“Also thank you for all the kind words and messages we have received, we wish we could reply to them all….”

TORCHE Announces New Releases, Tour Dates

Miami, Florida’s TORCHE are geared up for a busy year, with several new releases planned, heavy time on the road and the recording of their sophomore album. First and foremost, TORCHE will join ISIS and JESU for a February/March tour spanning most of the south-east and east coast. (see below for dates)

A special re-mixed version of TORCHE‘s acclaimed self-titled debut full-length will first be made available on this tour, as a deluxe gatefold vinyl LP. The entire album has been re-mixed from the ground up and now features an additional track originally recorded during the same session, but only recently receiving some seriously epic vocal treatment. The CD version of this will hit stores later this summer through Rock Action in Europe, and as a 2xCD in North America through Robotic Empire featuring both the new remixed version as disc 1 and the untreated original mix as disc 2.

Around the same time Robotic Empire will issue the long-delayed In Return EP, which was recently completed through Southern Noise Studios in Miami and mastered by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance East in Boston. Originally planned to be a two-song 7″, the six track EP will be issued as a 10″+CD… which is to say that the release will have both digital and analog formats available together. This was done to ensure that the intense artwork created by John Baizley will mainly be experienced in the large gatefold 10″ format. A newly mastered song from this release has been posted online and can be heard on the band’s Myspace page:

Following the tour with ISIS and JESU, the band will return to Miami to put the finishing touches on their sophomore album, which will be recorded by Kurt Ballou at Godcity in Boston during late May/early June. TORCHE will tour both to and from Boston around this time, playing with some seriously incredible groups on this jaunt. More details will be announced as they become available, but in the meantime be sure to catch them on tour if you want to preview some of the songs intended for this album:

JESU Unable to Join ISIS Tour Until Permits Secured

As previously reported, JESU have canceled their CD release show and now have been forced to skip out on initial participation on their upcoming tour with ISIS. The band issued the following status on their tour on their official MySpace page:

“We are sorry to report that JESU are still stuck in England and will NOT be playing the Spaceland, L.A headline/release party; work permits for JESU have still not been cleared by U.S officials/customs and the band are not allowed into the U.S until the permits are officially cleared. The band are yet to receive a date of clearance and simply have to wait until they do so before entering the U.S, hence JESU will not be appearing at any shows with ISIS until the permits are available and JESU can leave England.

“Please watch this space for further news; once JESU have their permits we will post confirmation of this and the first show that JESU will play in the U.S. Hopefully the band will not miss more than the first week of this tour, being the bands first tour of the U.S.

“In related JESU live line up news, JESU bass player Diarmuid Dalton will not be playing any of the U.S dates due to being refused a work permit for the U.S for this tour.

Diarmuid has been replaced for this tour by long time collaborator (and fellow Birmingham, England native) bass player Dave Cochrane (Justin and Dave played together in HEAD OF DAVID, SWEET TOOTH, ICE, GOD and now their new project together GREY MACHINE).

“Drummer Ted Parsons has also been unable to make this first JESU U.S tour due to family commitments and has been replaced by drummer Danny Walker, a Los Angeles native who plays for many bands including INTRONAUT.”
