The End Records Signs Collaboration Between Jarboe & Justin K. Broadrick

The End Records has signed the new project entitled: J2, featuring enigmatic singer/songwriter/performer Jarboe (SWANS) and Justin K. Broadrick, frontman for ambient/progressive noise project JESU (ex-GODFLESH).

J2 is the symbol for current density. The symbol is also short for “Joule” which means: Pronunciation Key: joule (jôôl, joul) The International System unit of electrical, mechanical and thermal energy.

Jarboe is known for her 14 years work with the legendary NYC East Village Art Rock band SWANS, as well as her recent musical collaborations with such bands as JESU, NEUROSIS and A PERFECT CIRCLE. Broadrick, who joined pioneering U.K. grind band NAPALM DEATH at the age of 15, formed the influential metal/industrial act GODFLESH in the late-80’s and in 2003 started up his current band JESU.

“..When I met Justin, he commented upon the impact and influence of Swans upon his music. We did a concert together in London in 2005 and began discussing working together. I had also been drawn to the unique energy of JESU and so this was exciting to explore.”

The J2 album will be released in the spring of 2008 on The End Records.

PITCH SHIFTER Classic Infotainment? to Be Reissued Sept. 24th

The long out-of-print 1996 breakthrough album from UK deviants PITCH SHIFTER, Infotainment?, is to be made available again on September 24 via Earache Records.

Marking the band’s evolution from underground notables to mainstream success, Infotainment? perfected the PITCH SHIFTER sound, merging a caustic industrial backbone with a growing interest with drum ‘n bass and techno influences. Tracks like “Underachiever” and “Virus” connected with rock fans of all persuasions and paved the way for even greater success, as the band went on to record major label records for both Geffen and MCA, with much commercial and critical acclaim.

Infotainment? was produced by Simon Efemey who also worked with UK rock giants PARADISE LOST, THE WILDHEARTS and NAPALM DEATH. Members of the band recently resurfaced with the THIS IS MENACE project featuring a variety of guests including Matt Davies from FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND, Jeff Walker of CARCASS and Casey Chaos of AMEN and SCUM.

PITCH SHIFTER, since known as PITCHSHIFTER (one word), have recently announced some UK headline shows as follows:

October 12 – London Astoria
October 13 – Nottingham Rock City

NAPALM DEATH – Smear Campaign

NAPALM DEATH have been blasting skulls in for over two decades now, which is remarkable considering that many of the band’s newest fans were still swimming around in their daddy’s nutsacks when the groundbreaking Scum was unleashed on an unsuspecting world. Smear Campaign, the band’s latest onslaught, sees the band continue their tradition of fast, furious forward-thinking grindcore with an invigorating energy that band’s half their age would kill for. Sandwiched between two dark, atmospheric tracks, “Weltschmerz” and the title cut, is a collection of fourteen aggressive, incinerating tracks all of which deliver fine examples of why the band continues to reign as leaders in the world of extreme music. “Puritanical Punishment Beating” offers one of the album’s many highlights with its incorporation of several different time and tempo changes in between the blasting intensity the mixes things up effectively. “In Deference” also adds some nice variety to the proceedings with an unlikely contribution from THE GATHERING‘s Anneke Von Giersbergen, whose haunting vocals complement the band’s vicious assault. Even though the band’s previous album, The Code is Red, was by no means a weak or mellow album, there’s an urgency and vitality to Smear Campaign that pushes the band’s intensity level to a higher degree, quickly and easily leaving all the competition in the dust. Another triumph for the kings of grind. (Century Media Records)

Watch NAPALM DEATH’s Latest Video, “When All is Said and Done”

NAPALM DEATH‘s latest music video has been posted for viewing here:
http://www.napalmdeath.org/mediaplayer/videos.php?id=18

The track, “When All is Said and Done,” is taken from the band’s latest release Smear Campaign.  Vocalist Barney Greenway commented on the clip:

“It’s often hard given the short timeframe of a video to express all the ideas you’d like to, but I think the ‘When All Is Said And Done‘ clip is a nice, short, sharp shock to the system. The idea was to try and compare and contrast the way that elitism drives (often violent) religious activity, and I think we achieved that alongside the usual charged live performance.

“That bit where you see me being pulled back by the guy with ropes (who is actually meant to be the guy from the Smear Campaign album cover) really fucking hurt quite a bit – rope burns and all that. Never let it be said that NAPALM DEATH doesn’t suffer for its art!”

NAPALM DEATH are currently on tour in Europe and will soon return to the U.S. for their own headlining tour with support from A LIFE ONCE LOST, DEAD TO FALL, and ANIMOSITY.  Check out this flyer for a full list of shows:
