MONDO GENERATOR Video For “Lie Detector” Posted Online; Band on Ozzfest

MONDO GENERATOR have uploaded the video for “Lie Detector,” from their recently released new album Dead Planet, online at the following location:

MONDO GENERATOR recently returned from their European tour where front man Nick Oliveri checked in from the road with the following update:

“Eastern Baltic rock! There were tons of hot girls, but unfortunately none of them were at our gigs. Estonia was cool, but Bulgaria was the best as me and Ian got to sing ‘Sex and Violence‘ with THE EXPLOITED; I’ll never forget it,” says Oliveri recapping MONDO GENERATOR‘s recent European tour. “Warsaw is always a good time, but I haven’t played there since I played with QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE 7 years ago. We had crazy drives through Serbia and Croatia going into Romania, where we got lost thinking we were taking an exit, but it was really an entrance. We had a great time playing for all the European fans and hope to get back there soon.”

MONDO GENERATOR’s new album Dead Planet landed in stores this week through Suburban Noize Records. The band is currently on the road all summer long on the second stage at Ozzfest 2007 and playing off dates with CIRCUS DIABLO. Dead Planet is already getting a strong reaction from radio where MONDO GENERATOR was the #3 most added on FMQB’s Loud Rock charts.

Recorded by producer Nick Raskulinecz at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606, Dead Planet is thunderous, raw rock ‘n’ roll at its best. The album has already generated significant critical acclaim upon European release.

MONDO GENERATOR was originally formed by ex-QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and KYUSS bassist Nick Oliveri in 1997. The band has previously released two critically acclaimed albums, their classic debut album Cocaine Rodeo in 2000 and 2003’s A Drug Problem That Never Existed. Initially intended as a side-project, the band has now become Oliveri’s full time venture.

MONDO GENERATOR is not a side-project anymore,” Oliveri says bluntly. “I used to do MONDO every now and then on spare time and now it’s my first choice. All other bands I play in have become my side-project, so in other words my mistress has now become my wife.”

NILE’s New Album Streaming at is streaming NILE‘s fifth studio album, Ithyphallic, in its entirety for seven days prior to the album’s North American street date of July 17th at the following link:

Engineered by Bob Moore and produced by Neil Kernon (CANNIBAL CORPSE, NEVERMORE, DEICIDE), Decibel Magazine recently praised Ithyphallic in their August 2007 issue: “The trio’s attack is more brutal than ever, their sound richer and more redolent with Middle Eastern flourishes. The opener, ‘What May Safely Be Written‘ is the band’s grandest to date – a manicured orgy of horns and gongs that gives way slowly to an opening dirge dominated by blast beats.”

In the same article penned by journalist Rod Smith, guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders (who was also voted #4 Top Death Metal Guitarist of All Time) provided the background story for the song “Papyrus Containing The Spell To Protect The Possessor From Attacks From He Who Is In The Water,” which debuted on the official Ozzfest website on June 6th:

“It’s from The Book Of Overthrowing Apep. There’s a spell in there, a chant that’s supposed to stop crocodiles from attacking your boat. I tried to picture it and thought, ‘Your boat’s being attacked by crocodiles. Are you really supposed to dig out your scroll, fumble through it, find the right chapter, repeat the words, and the crocodiles are gonna leave you alone? When the croc is about to bite you in half, are you gonna be able to find that chapter fast enough?’ It’s a ridiculous concept. I found myself thinking, ‘This song needs to have the words said as fast as possible.’ We decided this song would be frantic, fast as anything we’d ever done, with the words super-frantic fast, for that ‘trying to escape from the jaws of the crocodile’ feeling.”

Taiwan’s CHTHONIC Prepares for Ozzfest and Album Reissues

This week two albums by Taiwan’s premier metal act CHTHONIC – dubbed the “BLACK SABBATH of Asia” by their home country’s largest newspaper, and soon to be the first-ever Asian act to take part in Ozzfest – will finally be released in North America. Relentless Recurrence, initially released in 2002, and last year’s A Decade on the Throne live double album/DVD will continue the momentum started by the acclaimed Seediq Bale, the group’s first American release.

The music of CHTHONIC (pronounced THON-ick) focuses in part on the history of the Taiwanese people. The band has even christened its upcoming international tour – which will commence in suburban Seattle when the group kicks off the summer’s first Ozzfest – “UNlimited,” in part to protest how the United Nations (UN) limits Taiwan’s full participation as an independent country. (Visit for more on “UNlimited CHTHONIC, UNlimited Taiwan.”)

Set to a riveting soundtrack of symphonic black metal, Relentless Recurrence relays a Taiwanese folk tale about a demonic ghost hell-bent on revenge. Like the group’s other recordings, the album sees CHTHONIC use a Hena, a traditional Asian instrument comparable to a violin, to emphasize the legend’s sorrow and grief. Meanwhile, A Decade on the Throne is an engrossing live double album/DVD set recorded before a sold-out crowd in the band’s home country, and features guest performances by the so-called Oriental Orchestra as well as the Taipei Ladies’ Choir. It will be released in a lavish digibook with special artwork and a velvet covering.

Though the band’s image is reminiscent of the black metal legends of Scandinavia, CHTHONIC’s use of corpse paint is inspired by the history of their own culture. In Taiwanese folklore, deities known as the “Eight Generals” wear corpse paint to become empowered with Taoist spirits that give them the power to judge good and evil. It is this spirit that the band conveys on stage.

CHTHONIC has been pushing boundaries throughout their career, and having singlehandedly launched an extreme metal scene in their home country, the group now sets their sights squarely on the rest of the world. The band will continue taking its music abroad in August when it performs at Wacken Open Air, Germany’s largest annual metal festival, and it will embark on its first full European tour this fall. And though CHTHONIC — like all rotating second-stage Ozzfest bands — will have just 20 minutes to make its case on tour this summer, the group hopes its message reverberates long after their final notes are played.

BEHEMOTH, CHTHONIC, DAATH Added to Ozzfest’s Second Stage

Poland’s blackened death metallers, BEHEMOTH, have been added to this summer’s Ozzfest‘s second stage, joining second stage headliners HATEBREED. Vocalist/guitarist, Nergal, commented on their participation:

“I couldn’t be more proud about the fact that BEHEMOTH will be joining this year’s Ozzfest! I’m speechless and beyond excited. No doubt it’s going to be the brightest point of our career thus far, and I hope that this will help to spread dangerous and extreme music among the masses.

“It’s an honor to team up with our longtime brothers in NILE and to share the stage with LAMB OF GOD and HATEBREED, not to mention the legend himself! With such a bill, you can expect nothing but pure metal carnage! What makes me even more excited is the little fact that we will be releasing our new album during the tour. So expect songs from The Apostasy, as well as some older shit. We’ll definitely make sure the set is going to be brutal as fuck. You’ve been warned!”

Other extreme metal bands have been added to the second stage as rotating acts, including Taiwanese symphonic black metallers CHTHONIC and Atlanta, Georgia’s DAATH.

LORDI Ready to Invade U.S. with Headlining Dates and Ozzfest 2007

Finland’s monster rock n’ roll band, LORDI, have been selected as one of the mainstage acts for Ozzfest 2007, alongside mainstage headliners, OZZY OSBOURNE and LAMB OF GOD.

The band – who released a special 2CD/DVD version of The Arockalypse (with bonus tracks/videos) this week via The End Records – are excited to be on this much-anticipated annual tour across North America, referred to this year as “FreeFest” because all tickets to the event are free.

“It is a great honour for us to be on Ozzfest and obviously it is gonna be a great opportunity for us to show the people in the U.S. what we can do…or what they think we can do. [laughs],” comments Mr. Lordi about the opening slot on the mainstage that starts July 12th, 2007 in Seattle, WA. “My best friend is a huge Ozzy fan he’s really jealous of the whole thing. I’m gonna try and remember to pick him up an Ozzfest t-shirt when we return to Finland. For us the idea of playing Ozzfest is still hard to believe. I’ll believe it when we’re there.”

Confirmed bands performing on the second stage includes HATEBREED (second stage headliner), MONDO GENERATOR, ANKLA, CIRCUS DIABLO and NILE.

LORDI starts their inaugural ‘”monster invasion” of North America which will start April 20th, 2007 in Anaheim, California at House of Blues and end with a two-night stint at the Bamboozle Music Festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 5th and 6th, 2007.

About touring North America for the first time, Mr. Lordi says, “Yeah of course. That’s goes without saying. I’m really anxious to see how the audiences are gonna react to us. From our point of view touring the States is like ‘coming home.’ I know it sounds weird for a Finnish band to say that but we are often described as the ‘most American band’ in Finland.
