SUSPERIA Vocalist Set to Make Return at Steinkjer Festival in Norway

SUSPERIA vocalist, Athera (Pål Mathiesen), is set to make his return to the stage at this year’s Steinkjer Festival in Norway following his heart attack recovery.  Athera suffered a heart attack back in March and underwent successful open heart surgery.

Athera recently gave his first interview since the heart attack to Belgium’s Metal Nose. Talking about his new perspective on life he said, “I haven’t seen the light or anything but things are certainly different. I would never ever dare to touch any kind of drugs anymore and I don’t understand now how people can pull smoke into their lungs and stuff like that, even though I used to love it. I guess you must go through something like this to realize the dangers and insanity of some of the bad things in life.” Check out the full interview here: http://www.metal-nose.org/news.php?item.575.16.

The Steinkjer Festival takes place Friday, June 26.  More info here: http://www.steinkjerfestivalen.no/

SUSPERIA Vocalist Suffers Heart Attack

Athera (Pal Mathieson), vocalist with Norwegian band SUSPERIA, was rushed to Akershus Universitetssykehus Hospital in Lørenskog, Norway yesterday morning after suffering from acute stomach pains and heavy bleeding. Initial tests revealed that the singer had suffered a heart attack caused by a damaged blood vessel. Athera is currently in the intensive care unit under close observation, while further tests are carried out, and is expected to remain hospitalized for the foreseeable future. At this moment future plans including touring commitments remain unchanged, until a full diagnosis of his condition has been confirmed.

The band recently completed their fifth studio album, which is due for an early summer release through the band’s new label Candlelight RecordsAthera described the new album as “going back to the early days with the melancholic riffing and dark emotional vocals and coming all the way through to today, with a perfect blend of everything SUSPERIA has been and become.”

Everyone involved with the band wishes Athera a fast and speedy recovery as does everyone here at APESHIT.
