The End Records Signs TODAY IS THE DAY; New Album Re-Issues in the Works

The End Records is pleased to announce the signing of TODAY IS THE DAY for their upcoming new album, in addition to the acquisition of their 10-album catalog. The End Records will release the new album in 2017 in commemoration of the band’s 25th anniversary, followed by the catalog re-issues, which feature exclusive, never-before seen and heard bonus material from the band’s deep archives!

Currently in the studio are visionary frontman/founding member Steve Austin (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Trevor Thomas (bass), and Douglas Andrae (drums). From the studio, the album will be mastered by Maor Appelbaum. When asked about the new album sound, Austin described it as a “wide open devastation of the human soul – a diary of un-filtered anger and emotion detailing the Human Experience and the struggle to survive.”

The catalogue re-issues fall on the 20th anniversary of their seminal album Temple Of The Morning Star. Says Austin, “I am extremely psyched to be re-issuing the Today Is The Day catalog with Andreas Katsambas, a long-time fan of the band. For the re-issues, I searched my archives and pulled loads of photos, un-released tracks, demos, and video to paint the rest of the picture. I wanna share a lot of those experiences, to hopefully expose a lot of the real life behind all my music.”  Further details can be found here.

TODAY IS THE DAY reigns as one of the most influential bands of the past two decades. The band’s violent and anthemic style, which blends metal, noise, psychedelia, and rock, has won worldwide acclaim ever since the debut album, Supernova, first hit in the early 90’s. Ten studio albums have been released on such labels as Amphetamine Reptile, Relapse, and Southern Lord — including modern-day classics like Willpower, Temple of the Morning Star, and In the Eyes of God. The band’s lineup has included such musicians as Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher, who would later go on to form MASTODON.

BMG Announces Acquisition of The End Records

In a surprise move, major label BMG has announced the acquisition of pioneering indie label The End Records.  The acquisition includes the entire back catalogue as well as future releases.  The End Records will continue to operate from its offices in New York.  Check out the press release here.

The label was started out of CEO Andreas Katsambas‘ home in Pasadena and flourished in the early years as a label that pioneered a new scene of eclectic, avant garde metal bands, including AGALLOCHWINDS, and EPOCH OF UNLIGHT.  They also made a name for themselves by becoming the trailblazer in having the best selection of underground metal and rock albums in its online shop.  One did not have to pay $30 for a copy of ARCTURUSLa Masquerade Infernale.  The now industry standard pre-release album packages with a limited edition t-shirt, CD, vinyl, and mp3s was a concept pioneered by Katsambas.

The End Records partnered with many underground European labels such as Black Mark, Osmose Productions, Music for Nations and Listenable Records to provide distribution in North America.  One could finally pick up IMMORTAL‘s At the Heart of Winter at a record store at a domestic price.

Through endless hard work, struggle, and disappointments, Katsambas kept the label alive and greatly expanded the roster to include bands of all genres.  The End Records ceased to be strictly a heavy music label.  The label that was once home to ULVER, DIR EN GREY, and VOIVOD is now home to EVERCLEAR, WANZ, and THE DANDY WARHOLS.

We congratulate Andreas Katsambas and the rest of the staff, past and present, on this milestone!

The End Records to Release EMPRESS AD’s Debut Album

The End Records/ADA, as part of a unique partnership with Roadrunner Records/Warner Music Group, is thrilled to announce they will be releasing the debut album from British prog-metal band EMPRESS AD.

For The End Records, who will be releasing the group’s full-length album exclusively in the United States this summer, the timing couldn’t be any better. As label owner Andreas Katsambas states, “Our global deal with ADA/WEA enabled us to reconnect with our good friends at Roadrunner. They have always displayed remarkable vision at discovering new talent and Empress AD is no exception. We are excited to be collaborating with Roadrunner and together really get behind such a special band!”

There are as many elements of MASTODON and OPETH in their music as there are of the more melodic PINK FLOYD, KING CRIMSON, and ELBOW – all huge influences. The band also cites influences such as post-hardcore bands, UNDEROATH and THRICE. If that seems quite the motley crew, you’ll understand why the band’s sound is hard to pin down.

EMPRESS AD’s Ollie Loring adds, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of the ROADRUNNER and THE END RECORDS family.  Changing the band’s name was a necessary step to safeguard against any name issues down the line.  EMPRESS was then.  EMPRESS AD is the watershed moment and very much ’the now’.”

STOLEN BABIES: And the Circus Leaves Town

Los Angeles’ STOLEN BABIES are as twisted and imaginative as they come, both musically and visually. But the eclectic band’s natural talent shines in their ability to incorporate such creativity into crafting great songs. Each and every song is like a ride through a twisted carnival madhouse wonderland. STOLEN BABIES are not a band to be categorized, but their influences from the spectrum of rock are very apparent. Drummer Gil Sharone, who’s lent his talents to various musical entities including DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and PUSCIFIER, provided some insight into the band that somehow manages to make an accordion part of a kick ass band.

Chicago’s TUB RING Signs with The End Records

Chicago’s avant-garde/spazz/rock ensemble, TUB RING, has signed to The End Records. The band will release their yet-untitled debut album for the label sometime in early 2007. Since their inception in 2001, TUB RING has been a force of nature in the left-of-center world of music. Their debut album, Drake Equation (produced by MR. BUNGLE‘s Trey Spruance), helped showcase their musical makeup as a tornado of genres, mixing punk, classical, surf, a-capella, hard-core, pop, and whatever else crossed their path into one cohesive blend of rock.

“There are very few labels TUB RING would be comfortable working with,” says keyboardist Rob Kleiner about signing with The End Records. “It’d be difficult to be on a genre exclusive label, or with a label that had bad taste in artists. We’re excited to be with The End Records because they’re as into exploring new boundaries in music as we are.”

About the recording of the new album, he comments, “There were over 30 songs written for this album, but we’re only going to put the most important 13 on the record. It’s going to be just as eclectic as ever, with a thick and layered production. We want to make a big impression with this record because now being with The End Records our music will become exposed to a whole new audience.”

TUB RING has also made their mark outside of the music scene. They have been featured on Fox Sports, X-Box 360’s “Amp Snow Boarder 3”, various MTV/MTV2 programs, Spike and Mike’s Twisted Animation films and several Mt. Dew commercials. Most recently, TUB RING played live in the TRL room on MTV2 and was featured in the MTV reality-based contest show “Dew Circuit Breakout.”

GIANT SQUID Preparing For South Park Music Festival, ISIS Show

Austin, Texas-based eclectic doom rock band, GIANT SQUID, will be making the long haul to South Park, Colorado this weekend to play the showcase at this year’s South Park Music Festival. More than 120 bands from all over the world are converging on the tiny town of South Park, which sits at 10,000 feet elevation, and is the real life city that inspired the infamous cartoon of the same name. About the upcoming showcase, GIANT SQUID singer/guitarist Aaron Gregory comments, “GIANT SQUID will be revealing their new band members, Kimberly Freeman (keyboards) and Scott Sutton (drums), who have been working diligently to prepare for this event, as well as the band’s opening slot with one of their all-time favorite bands, ISIS, at Emo’s in Austin, Texas on September 13th, 2006.”

“I think we will all really enjoy seeing some mountains again, almost all of us being native Californians who are still adjusting to Texas’ flatness. South Park will be like a mini-vacation for all of us, as long as we don’t pass out trying to rock too hard at that elevation. It couldn’t be a better way though to prepare our new guy and gal before the ISIS gig we have as soon as we get home. I just hope people will be there to watch us at South Park since we will be driving 32 hours to play four songs!”

He adds, “The first waves of reviews on Metridium Fields, GIANT SQUID‘s debut release on The End Records have rolled in, and it’s pretty overwhelming the amount of praise they’ve washed up.”

ESTRADASPHERE’s Palace of Mirrors Tracklisting and Tour Dates Revealed
