VALIENT THORR @ The Echo, Los Angeles (10/16/10)

It’s LA Fashion Week here in Los Angeles and VALIENT THORR came to show off their denim Thorrier fashion with a hefty side of rock ‘n roll thrashin’ yesterday (Saturday) at The Echo in Echo Park.

Of course, VALIENT THORR really had nothing to do with LA Fashion Week, but the bearded beasts did put on a fiery rock party. Heads were a’bangin’, fists were a’pumpin’, bodies were a’sweatin’ and boats were a’rowin’ (see below)… all this despite the last minute, un-rock ‘n roll early show schedule change. I’m talking about 8:30pm early.

Touring in support of their recently released, Stranger, album, the band were firing on all cylinders. Valient Himself, always the quintessential frontman with beard-loads of quality between-song banter, at one point jumped into the crowd and engaged the audience in a row boat routine. You kind of had to be there for that. Eidan Thorr slayed as usual in the riff department, and new second guitarist Voiden Thorr definitely brought a more metallic touch to their already edgy AC/DC-meets-IRON MAIDEN-meets-the history of rock ‘n roll sound.

Check out some photos courtesy of Captain Sean and make sure to check out VALIENT THORR when they hit your town! Oh, and watch their new music video “Double Crossed.

VALIENT THORR, EARLY MAN @ The Viper Room, Hollywood (10/24/09)

[slidepress gallery=’valient-thorr-091024′]

VALIENT THORR and EARLY MAN lit up The Viper Room this Saturday with a guitar-fueled, gritty rock/metal showcase.

VALIENT THORR, touring in support of their new album, Immortalizer, delivered a rocking performance that stirred the tiny Viper Room into a mosh pit frenzy. Before the band took the stage, they premiered a visually creative music video for the track “Tomorrow Police,” from Immortalizer.

EARLY MAN preceded VALIENT THORR with their delicious, throwback thrash attack. Included in their set was a track off their forthcoming new album Death Potion.

EARLY MAN have regretfully been forced to cancel their tour with VALIENT THORR due to an injury sustained by frontman, Mike Conte.  He released the following statement:

“Unfortunately due to an arm/back injury that I suffered after our last tour we have had to cancel all of our tour dates this month with VALIENT THORR so I can get some much needed rest. We will hit the road again after this month and all summer long in support of our new full length which will come out this summer. The record is called Death Potion, I actually had a chance to hear a couple mastered versions of the new songs earlier today for the first time and they sound amazing. This record is clearly a new level for us as a band and I can’t wait to take these songs out on the road. We will see you all soon”

In other news, Conte has been ranting, raving, answering questions, and keeping the public up-to-date on his and EARLY MAN‘s debauchery in a regular column over on our friends’ site,

“With this column,” explains Conte, “I plan to give [readers] weekly updates and a behind the scenes look into everything that is going on in the world of EARLY MAN, whether it be drinking, touring, recording, drinking, shredding, drinking, etc., if it’s happening I’ll be writing about it. What I won’t be doing with this column is writing 9 page essays about the ‘current state of the metal scene’ or ‘my take on the new METALLICA record’ or any other boring crap like that. Don’t you get enough of that horseshit already? WHO FUCKING CARES!”

TURBONEGRO Guitarist Falls Ill; Volcom Tour Postponed

The Volcom Tour originally featuring TURBONEGRO, VALIENT THORR, and YEAR LONG DISASTER has been postponed due to TURBONEGRO guitarist, Euroboy‘s illness. TURBONEGRO issued the following statement:

“Due to serious illness with Euroboy, TURBONEGRO will be unable to perform on the forthcoming European Volcom tour.

“We will work on rescheduling the dates to some point later in the year.

Euroboy has asked that we relay to you that he is very sorry that he’s unable to do the dates, and looks forward to seeing everyone later in the year, when he is well again.

“We’ll do our very best to keep everyone updated as to how he is doing, but would ask that his privacy is respected at this time.”

Euroboy issued a statement of his own about his situation:

“I just wanted to say a few words about how sorry I am about the whole situation. First of all, I’m doing alright now, staying at home with my family and feeling OK, but I’ll be going trough treatment in the near future. I was really looking forward to going on this tour and kicking ass night after night in true, classic TURBONEGRO style, together with two other great bands. I’m sure we’d all have had a real cool time. Now my life has suddenly almost turned upside down and I won’t be able to tour or perform for a while. I can still play guitar of course, so I’ll work on some new ‘hot licks’ and maybe write a couple of new songs (some top-of-the-mountain emotional power ballads that is, no just kidding!).

“Recently there’s been changes in the line up for the first time in 10 years. I don’t want you to see what’s going on now as another step in that direction. My heart is still pounding for the mighty TURBONEGRO and its fantastic Jugend, very much too. In the last month we’d been rehearsing and doing some one-off shows in Norway and Switzerland, where we blasted through some new songs and and some old ones that we haven’t played for ages. I hope to be back on stage and deliver again later in the year. I think the band in 2008 fucking rocks. I miss Rune [Rebellion] and Chris [Summers] of course, but we’re all still good friends; they visited me and showed great support yesterday. But I have to say it’s very, very nice to have my old mate and super drummer Tomas Dahl as part of the engine. I know you’re gonna like it too, next time we come by to rip your door.

“So, I hope to see you all again soon and have a rad rock ‘n’ roll night together. Thanks for your kind words on the message boards, I really appreciate it.

“I love you.”
